left on Saturday to motor to Los
Angeles, California, where Mr.
Grindley will be on the univer-
sity staff for the next two years,
while studying for his doctorate,
Mrs. Sundstrom and Alvin Sun

iting with Mr, and Mrs. Ross Mid-
dleton,
The WomeA Auxiliary of St.
James Church, Middleton, held a
successful sale of homemade bak-
ing and produce at Mrs. Gaird-
ner's, Bayfield, last Saturday. The
W,A. realized the tidy sum of al-
most $80 as the result of their
efforts.

OBITUARY
William R. Stephenson
Funeral services were held last
Sunday afternoon, August 2, from
the United Church, Hensall, for
William R. Stephenson, a well
known retired district farmer,
who died at his home on Rich-
mond Street early Friday morn-
ing, July 31. after nearly two
years of ill health.
Born on the Goshen Line e4
years ago, he was the only son pf
the late Mr. and Mrs. Ralph
Stephenson. At the age of three
years he and his parents moved
to the home farm on the Parr
Line.
He married the former Isabella
Smale, Staffa, and they lived on
the home farm until eight years
ago when he retired and bought
a house on. Richmond Street.
He was a member of the LOL,
Varna, and a former member of
Varna United Church, where he
was an active choir member, and
more recently a member of the
Hensel), United Church.
Surviving are his widow, two
sons, Ivan, St. Catherines, and
Ralph, now living •on the home
farm, on the Parr Line; two
daughters, juline (Mrs. Harvey
Keys), Hensall, and Joyce (Mrs,
Ronald Burt), London; three sis-
ters, Mrs. Luther Sanders, Sea-
forth; Mrs. David Johnston, La
Riviere, Manitoba; Mrs, Wesley
Cockerline, Pilot Mound, Manito-
ba, and ten grandchildren.
Rev, Currie Winlaw was assis-
ted by Rev. Charles. D, Daniel at
the funeral service on Sunday,
with interment in Bayfield Ceme-
tery. Pall-bearers were Roy
Consitt, Hensall; Albert Horner,
Seaforth; Harvey Coleman, Anson
Coleman, George Reid and Alfred
Johnston, of the Parr Line,
Flawerbearers were Elmer Tur-
ner, Ralph Turner, Frank Mc-
CLinchey, Bruce McClinchey, Ken
Reid, Arthur Smale, Robert Arm-
strong, William Boles, Lee Mc-
Connell, Perce Johnston, Russell
Drratt, Clarence Stephenson, Geo-
rge Stephenson, Robert Drysdale,

Hunter Family Picnic
At Jowett's Grove
The Hunter family picnic was
held on August 9, at Jowett's
Grove, with 75 persons attending.
Races were won as follows: five

Helen McKay; lack-the-slipper,
men, Bradley Dutot; three-legged

Picnic At Jowett's Grove, -Bayfield
Jowett's Grove, Bayfield, was
the scene of the Kinsmen Club of
Clinton picnic on Sunday, August
2, when 57 people enjoyed picnic
supper together, Chairman Was

London Road Club
Next Meeting
On September 10
The London Road Club met at
the home of Mrs. Stanley Collins
in June, with Mrs, Clare Magee
presiding (in the absence of the
president, Mrs. Anderson). Roll
call was answered by telling an
amusing incident of school days.
The flower collection amounted to
$1.82. Pot luck lunch was served.
The next meeting will be at the
home of Mrs, Managhan on Sep-
tember 10, with hostesses, Mrs.
Magee and Mrs. Guetter. Mrs.
Anderson will be in charge of the
program. Roll call will be answ-
ered by stating "How we spent our
summer holiday,"

Hill-Skelton picnic at Jowett's
Grove, Bayfield, on Sunday, from
Hamilton, Kingston, V a r n a,
Brucefield and St. Catherines. Mr.
and Mrs. J. K. Cornish, Bruce-
field, also attended.
