25, in the absence of the president.
Correspondence was read by Mrs,
C. Elliott.
Mrs. Bette Tillman has been ap-
pointed to succeed Mrs. Ian Mc-
Allister. She is a graduate of Mac-
Donald Institute. Mrs. N. Tyndall
told of the progress made by the
4-H Garden Club. Mrs. Forest gave
a paper on agriculture.
Mrs. E. Epps gave two really
good recitations. Mrs. Harrison
sang, accompanied by Miss Lois
Grasby. The WI will purchase a
new table for the Community
Park. Lunch was served by Mrs.
E. Trick and her committee.
MOTHERS STUDY GROUP
HAS WEINER ROAST
The Mothers' Study Group of
Wesley-Willis United Church met
Thursday evening, June 23 at the
home of Mrs. William Holland
with 13 present. Mrs. Robert
Wright was in charge of the meet-
ing after which a weiner roast,
forced indoors by cool weather,
was served by the hostesses Mrs.
George Cantelon and Mrs. Kenneth
Johnston.

Mrs. Shaddick who spent a week's
holidays there returned home with

Flight Lieutenant J. D. Carroll
took part in the ceremony at Ot-
tawa yesterday at which Queen
Elizabeth offiicated and uneviled a
memorial. Mr. and Mrs. Carroll
(nee Barbara Steep) leave to-day
for RCAF Station Summerside,
Prince Edward Island.
Good Will Bazaar
Successful; Held
At Mrs. R. Jenkins'
A very successful tea and sale
of home baking, aprons and novel-
ties was held at the home of Mrs.
R. Jenkins, Townsend Street on
Saturday, June 27, by the Good
Will Club of Wesley-Willis United
Church. Receiving visitors with
Mrs. Jenkins was Mrs. H. Gordon
Manning, president and Mrs. J.
A. McKim. Mrs. F. Fingland was
hostess.
Pouring tea at the tastily ar-
ranged table, centred with a bowl
of beautiful pink and white roses,
white tulle and tall, lighted pink
tapers, were Mrs. C. E. Epps
and Mrs. W. A. Oakes.
Mrs. R. Shipley was in charge of
tapers were Mrs. E. H. Epps
son, the novelties.
Mrs. L. Ball convened the tea
and was ably assisted in the tea
room and kitchen by members of
the club.

Bayfield Obituary
Charles A. Kanter
(By our Bayfield Correspondent)
Funeral was held from 16805
Maumee, Grosse Pointe, Michigan,
on Monday morning, June 29, for
Charles A. Kanter, 71-year-old dir-
ector and former president of the
Manufacturer's National Bank of
Detroit. Mr. Kanter died in Jen-
nings Hospital, Detroit on June 18.
Service was conducted by the
Rev. Dr. William Sherry, pastor
of Old Christ Church, Detroit, and
interment was in Elmwood Cem-
etery,
The late Mr. Kanter will be mis-
sed in Bayfield, where he main-
tained a cottage. He had been com-
ing to the village for about 20
years.
Interested in community affairs,
he supported the Pioneer Park As-
sociation project and gave valu-
able advice while serving on the
Board of Directors for a three
year term,
Mr. Kanter began his career as
messenger boy under his father,
the late Henry L. Kanter, co-foun-
der of the one-time German Am-
erican Bank, He attended the De-
troit University of Michigan and
joined the Griswold National Bank
in 1926.
In 1933 he became a senior of-
ficer of Manufacturer's National
Bank, senior vice president in 1938
and president in 1943. He retired
in 1949 and then served as chair-
man of the board until 1956.
In college, Kanter was elected
to Phi Beta Kappa. During World
War 1 he served as an Army Or-
dinance captain.
He was a member of the Det-
roit Club, Grosse Pointe Club,
William College Club, Williams
Alumni Association and the Roll-
ing Rock Club in Ligonier, Pa.
Kanter was associated with the
Greater Detroit Board of Com-
merce, the Economic Club of De-
troit, the American Reserve As-
sociation and the Reserve City
Bankers Association.
He also was a former director
of the Federal, Reserve Bank of
Chicago and a director of the Nat,
tonal.Steel Corporation and the
United Foundation. He was chair-
man and secretary of the finance
committee of the Grosse Child.

Turner's WA Has
18 At June Meeting
Turner's Church Woman's As-
sociation met in the basement on
Wednesday evening, June 24, with
18 members and visitors present.
Roll call was answered by a verse
from the Bible containing the
word "Forgive". Scripture was
read by Mrs.. Ed. Layton. Devot-
ions and prayer were by Mrs, E.
Crich. Mrs. Greg McGregor gave
an interesting report of the WA
spring conference at Moncrief.
The topic on Five Oaks, was
given by Mrs. Erland Whitmore
with slides shown by Rev. Grant
Mills of the building and lovely
scenery there. Lunch was served
by Mrs. Layton and Mrs, William
Rogerson.

Little Helpers Have
Party on Lawn
The Little Helpers of St. Paul's
Anglican Church held their an-
nual service and party on Thurs-
day, June 18. A short service was
held in the church with Rev. C.
S. Inder conducting the service.
Mrs. Theo Fremlin presided at
the organ.
Later a party was held on the
rectory lawn where mothers and
children enjoyed the hospitality
of Mrs. Inder.
Races were conducted by Mrs.
Eric Switzer, Mrs. Gordon Her-
man, Mrs. Jean Bartliff and Mrs.
Joe Murphy. Later refreshments
were served by members of the
Women's Auxiliary.
OBITUARIES
Mrs. E. Morrison
Funeral service was held from
the Ball and Mitch funeral home,
High Street, Clinton, on Tuesday,
June 30, for Charlotte Kells, wi-
dow of the late Edmund Morrison.
Mrs. Morrison passed away in Cl-
inton Public Hospital on Sunday
at the age of 79, after a lengthy
illness.
The Rev. C. S. Inder, St, Paul's
Anglican Church rector, officiated
and interment was in Clinton Cem-
etery, Pall-bearers were Robert El-
gie, George Shipley, Bert Gib-
bings, Bill Landsborough, A, Cor-
riveau and K, VanRiesen, Flower
bearers were Melvin Graham and
Ken Parke.
Born at Listowel in January,
1880, she was married in 1911 and
lived at Brucefield until 1918, when
they moved to Clinton. She was
a member of St. Paul's Anglican
Church, the Ladies Guild and the
Women's Auxiliary,
Surviving is one daughter, Vio-
let, at home and one sister Anna,
Mrs. Shannon, California,
Attending the funeral from a
distance were people from Toron-
to, Thornhill, Waterloo and Kit-
chener,

Isaac Papernick
Isaac (Ivan) Papernick died sud-
denly at his home, Elgin Ave.,
Goderich, on Sunday. He was a
well-known merchant ,of the
county seat, owner of the Fashion
Shop, which he had operated for
18 years.
He was born in Poland, son of
the late Mr, and Mrs. S. Joseph
Papernick, and came to Canada
31 years ago. For 11 years he was
in Kitchener, and two years in
Clinton, before moving to Gode-
rich. In 1942 he married Jean
Ritchie of Lucknow.
Besides his wife, he is survived
by one daughter, Frances Jean;
one son, Larry; one sister, Mrs.
Jacob (Fanny) Taraday, Kitch-
ener; two brothers, Harry, Kitch-
ener and Abraham, Toronto.
The body rested at the Stiles
funeral home, where service was
held Tuesday afternoon, with Rev.
A. E. Eustace officiating. Inter-
ment was in Maitland Cemetery.
Cox Reunion
The 14th annual reunion of the
Cox family was held at Harbour
Park, Goderich, on June 27 with
about 75 in attendance.
Sports events for the young and
not so young were conducted by
Mrs. Les Pearson, Miss Janet Har-
ris, Clair Cox and Mrs. William
Mcllwain.
In the absence of president,
Rev. Charles Cox, Bond Head, On-
tario the business meeting and el-
ection of officers for 1960 were
most ably conducted by Rev. Ben-
son Cox, Holyrood. Treasurer's and
secretary's reports were submit-
ted by Mrs, Grant Turner, London,
and Mrs. James Durnin, London,
respectively, A moment's silent
prayer was observed in -memory
of the late Mrs. Elizabeth Strath.

Ne wofficers elected were as
follows: Miss Dorothy Cox, presi-
dent; Mrs. Keith Cox, secretary;
Mrs. Donald Harris, treasurer.
Prizes were distributed as fol-
lows: Rev. Benson Cox, oldest

youngest member present; Miss
Dorothy Cox, Kirkland Lake, trav-
elling greatest distance; Mr. and
Mrs. Keith Cox, most recently
married couple; Mr. and Mrs. Har-
old Mair, largest family present.

The 38th annual Troyer reunion
was held June 21 at Harbour Park,

the sports committee, Mrs. Lorne
Lawson and Mrs. Harold Hugill.
