Aiken Bros. Store
Councillors George Rurnball and
Donald Bymons brought in a re-
port on a new washroom building
they had investigated in Luck-
now. That town has a 1.0x20'
washroom, half for men, and half
for women, built of cement block.
It is heated with electricity, and is
kept open from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m.
Cost of the building was $1,808.
Suggestion made by Reeve W.
J. Miller is that the new ladies
washroom could be put on the
side of the street adjacent to Aik-
en Bros, store, with the ladies
entrance off Rattenbury Street,
and the men's entrance at the
rear of the building,
Need for a ladies restroom was
caused by the sale of the PVC
office building in which the pre-
sent restroom is located.

OBITUARY
Mildred S. Evans
Word has been received by re-
latives in this district of the death
of a former Clinton resident, Mil-
dred Louise Evans. Miss Evans
was born in Clinton in 1879 and
was the daughter of the late Hen-
ry Evans and the former Louisa
Cole. Her grandfather, Dr. Cole,
was one of Clinton's pioneer phys-
icians while her other grandfath-
er, Bernard Evans, was one of the
early settlers in Goderich Town-
ship because he took up land there
in 1832.
For over 30 years Miss Evans
had resided in Seattle, Washing-
ton, where she was a deaconess
in the service of the Episcopalian
Church. Funeral services were held
May 9, 1959, at the Green Lake

The theme chosen was, "The
Bible Speaks Today", and the
special speaker was the Rev. Fran-
cis E. Viporal, the director for pro-
motion and understanding the
Bible for the Canadian Council
of Churches.
On Saturday evening Mr. Vipond
met with the leaders of the church
and conducted a Bible Workshop.
He gave a short introduction to
th first 11 chapters of the Book
of Genesis and introduced the five
stories that would be discussed
and analysed when the meeting
broke up into smaller discussion
groups,
The threefold method of study
that he recommended was: first,
with the head to understand the
facts of the story and the origin
and conditions; second, with the
heart to understand and apprec-
iate the meaning and thirdly,
with the hand to carry out the
truth of the lesson and apply it in
the world now.
The stories of Creation, the Fall,
Cain and Abel, The Flood and the
Tower of Babel were studied and
then the leaders of each group re-
ported the conclusion to the larg-
er group,
Mr. Vipond spoke at the ser-
vices on Sunday, In the morning
his sermon title was, "On Taking
a New Look at the Bible", and in
the evening he spoke on "Buried
Treasure". Mr. Vipond's work with
the Canadian Council of Churches
is to promote such Bible study
groups in the churches that com-
pose the council.
At the close of the evening ser-
vice Mr. Vipond conducted a work-
shop with the congregation on the
five parables of Jesus in chapter
13 of the Gospel of St. Matthew.
The same, participation method
was used.
After the reports, the ladies serv-
ed lunch. Judge Frank Fingland,
the Clerk of Session, thanked Mr.
Vipond for his leadership and in-
spiration.
Special Bible study books and
pamphlets were made available for
the congregation on a literature
table.
