George Hopson, who underwent
surgery at Westminster Hospital,
London, was brought home on Fri-
day, to recuperate, and is now im-
proving in health.

The District 12 meeting of the
Ontario. Retail Pharmacists Assoc-
Wiwi was held at The Little Inn
on Wednesday, May 27, with an et-
tendance of over 40. Walter C.
Newcombe, Clinton was named
president for 1960.
Ross De Long, Soutinunpton,
was in charge,
John McGibbon, district repre-
sentative, reported on the aetivit-
les of the association.
Other officers elected for 1960
are; vice president, Ben Magg4ch,
Chesley; and secretary, Frank
Pennebaker, Clinton.
It was decided to hold the next
meeting at Pleasure Valley Lodge,
Hanover, the third Wednesday in
May 1960.
The president Introduced the
guest speaker, Dr, W. R. Mitchell,
OVC, Guelph, whose subject was:
"Animal husbandry advancements
as relative to retail pharmacy." L.
Vance, Wingliam, expressed appre-
ciation to Dr, Mitchell far his
splendid address,
Mrs. W. C. Newcombe and. Mrs,
F. Pennebaker, Clinton, were hos-
tesses for the ladies who accomp-
anied their husbands, 18 in all,
They played court whist. Mrs. J.
McGibbon, Wingharn, was high,
and Mrs. 3, Hollingshead, Teeswa-
ter, low. Miss Ruth E. Hayman,
proprietress of The Little Inn, ser-
ved afternoon tea.
The ladies joined the gentlemen,
for the banquet, after which Rely
Ealinghausen, Owen Sound, intro-
duced the speaker, Jim Auger,
London, a graduate of the Dale
Carnegie Institute, whose topic
was "How to Speak,"
"First," Mr. Auger said, "one
must earn the right to speak." He
stressed that a speaker know his
or her subject; should be natural;
be honest and sincere; that tone of
voice sells and gives power and
meaning to what you sell. "If
possible," said the speaker, "have
training."
A speaker should be introduced,
something told about him and his
subject in from 10-20 seconds,
and not longer than 32 seconds
should be taken, he emphasized.
Tim secretary, Ben Moggach,
Chesley, moved a vote of thanks
to Mr. Auger.
Toronto, were at Mrs. E. J.
Bauer's cottage for the weekend.
Mrs. W. Hoodspith, Vancouver,
who is visiting her son, Wing Com-
mander Hoodspith, RCAF Stat-
ion Clinton was the guest of Misses
A. M. and E. 3, Stirling for a few
days last week. Mrs. Hoodspith
and Miss A. M. Stirling were room
mates during their three years
training at the Toronto General
Hospital School of Nursing.
Mr. and Mrs. William Moran,
London, were at their cottage in
the Village on Monday.
Mr. and Mrs, Carl Blauman,
Birmingham, occupied the McCom-
be cottage from Wednesday to
Saturday.

The Rev. and Mrs, C. E. Pea-
cock returned to the parsonage
late Thursday evening after hav-
ing spent a short vacation with
Mrs. Peacock's sister, Mrs., F, Ink-
pea, New Yforlt. They were ac-
companied by their daughter, Mrs,
George Lanf, Toronto.
While in New York they at-
tended Riverside Church in con-
nection with Columbia University
where Dr% McCracken, formerly of
McMaster :University., was the
preacher. On their way up to the
tower after the service; Mrs, R.
Williams (who with her family
spends summer vacations, here
with her parents, Magistrate and
Mrs. F. G. McAlister) recognized
Mr. Peacock and spoke to him, in
New York he passed the Fulton
Fish Market to which, (he learned
on his return to the village) local
fishermen now ship their catches.

London Convocation

Mrs. F. McEwen attended Con-
vocation at the University of Wes-
tern Ontario on Saturday, when
her daughter, Mrs. Ralph Nicholls,
graduated cum. Laude, received her
degree from the Faculty of Medi-
cine and the Alumni gold medal.
She also received the Alpha Kappa
Kappa gold medal and the T. B.
Cambell Memorial prize.
Drs. Ralph and Doris Nicholls ac-
companied by Dr. Donald Bradley,
London, England (who has joined
the Faculty of the University of
Western Ontario in the chemistry
department) and W. J. Nicholls,
Toronto, returned with Mrs, F. W.
McEwen to spend the weekend.
Dr. Doris Nicholls is doing re-
search work in Bio-chemistry at
the Medical School, University of
Western Ontario.

ed the new United Church at Iro-
spiels on the Bt. Lawrence Sea-
way,
Mrs. Peacock attended the Do-
minion W.M.S. meeting in Emman-uel College, Toronto, and Mr. Pea-
cock spent a day at the Hamilton
Conference at McMaster Univer-
sity,
During Mr, Peacock's absence,
on Sunday, May 24, the Gideon's
had charge of the service in St.
Andrew's United Church. Edgar
Cuchnore, Exeter, .conducted the
service and gave an address on the
origin and work of the Gideon's
Society, Donald Jolly, Exeter,
read the Scripture. Harry Hoff-
man, Dashwood, contributed two
vocal numbers, "You Must Open
Your Heart" and "Precious Lord,
Take My Hand".Mrs. Donald
Kingsbury presidd at the organ.

Nashville, Tenn., are visiting rel-
atives and friends here.
The Varna-Goshen Young Peo-
ples' Union is holding their anniv-
ersary service in Varna United Ch-
urch on Sunday, June 7, at 7,30'
p.m., with the Rev, K, McLagan,

young peoples choir will provide
the music.

treasurer's report. Thirty child-
ren answered roll call, The theme
was "Loving Deeds", Glenda John-
ston read the Scripture,
Mrs. Stephenson read "Mother
Dear", and Mrs, Taylor read the
story. Ann Stephenson, read a
poem about "our neighbours".
Next month the roll call is to
be answered by stating "where you
are going for your summer holi-
days".

Stanley Ladies Club
Stanley Ladies Club met at the
home of Mrs. Roy Cantelon, Ful-
ton Street, Clinton, with 12 mem-
bers, seven visitors and five child-
ren present. The secretary's re-
port was given by Mrs. N. Baird,
in the absence of Mrs. Stewart
Baird. The treasurer's report was
given by Mrs. Arie Verhoef, and,
the collection amounted to $5.55.
Roll call was answered by a ev-
ery lady emptying their purse and
counting articles there, The lady
with the least articles got the
prize. A get well card signed by
all present to Helen Stewart, who
was a patient in hospital at Brigh-
ton, Mass. Also flowers were sent
to her.
Miss Sybil Ceti"rare e.gave an in-
teresting talk on Japan. Mrs. Ed.
Glen conducted a contest. The
June meeting will be held at the
home of Mrs. Robert Glen. Roll
call will be answered by telling a
