Stephen Medd
(By' our Auburn Correspondent)
This community was shocked to
learn last weekend of the death
of Stephen Medd, in his 63rd year,
in St. Joseph's Hospital, London,
after a short illness. He was the
son of Mrs. John Medd, Goderich
and the late Mr. Medd and was
born at Dungannon where he re-
ceived his early education.
Later he moved with his family
to the Medd homestead in West
Wawanosh near Auburn. He work-
ed for some time at Woodstock,
and in 1941 settled at Ilderton. At
the time of his death he was em-
ployed by the Co-op.
He was a member of the Angli-
can Church. He was also on the
fall fair board and the Ilderton
Agricultural Society, and was a
lover of good horses.
He is survived by his wife (for-
merly Eva Shipley), one daughter,
Mrs. Robert (Stephanie) Harvey,

Valentine Townsend
Funeral service was conducted
at the Ball and Mutch funeral
home on Friday afternoon, May 1,
by the Rev, J. A. 1VIcKim, for
Valentine Townsend, late of
Townsend Street, Clinton,who
passed away on Tuesday, April
in Clinton Public Hospital,
The minister was assisted by
the Rev, R. Humphries, Mount
Forest, Ontario, and the soloist
Was the Rev, J. Ostrom, Wingham.
Pall-bearers were Arthur Hum-
phries, Norman Prentice, Robert
Davis, Fred Townsend, Edwin
Wood and William Manning.
Flower-bearers were Ronald Scott,
William Govier, Willis Mountain
and Leslie Ball. Interment was
in Clinton Cemetery.
Born on May 19, 1890, in Hul-
lett .Township, he was the son of
Elisha Townsend and Sarah Fish-
er. He married Evaline Scott on
August 15, 1925, and they lived
in Toronto until coming to Clinton
three years ago. Mr. Townsend
was a carpenter by trade. He was
a member of the Baptist Church.
Death followed an accident in
which Mr. Townsend fell from a
roof on Victoria Street, Clinton,
on Saturday, April 25.
Surviving are two sons, Robert
B. and Stanley F.; three brothers,
Elisha, Montreal; Walter, Brant-
ford; Robert, Londesboro; three
sisters, Amelia, Toronto; Mrs. G.
Roberton and Mrs. F. Wood.
Persons attending from a dist-
ance came from Montreal, Brant-
ford, Alliston, Stratford, Londes-
boro, Mount Forest, Toronto and
Goderich.

also one grandson, Robert Brent
Harvey; his mother, Mrs. John
Medd, Goderich and two Sisters,
Mrs. Fred (Mary) Rouse, Gode-
rich and Mrs. J. C. (Margaret)
Moss, Woodstock.
The funeral was 'conducted at
St. George's Anglican Church,
London, on Saturday, May 2, with
burial taking place at St. George's
Cemetery. Friends and relatives
from Auburn attended the service.

To Indian School
The Women's Missionary Soc-
iety of St. Andrew's Presbyterian
Church met at the home of Mrs.
Ed. Farquhar, with the president,
Mrs. R. W. McKenzie, in charge.
Scripture was read by Mrs. Alice
Dunbar and Mrs. W. T., Blacker,
followed with prayer.
Plans for money and clothing to
send to an Indian School were
made, Mrs. William Shaddock
continued with "Schools in. India
and Hospitals" from the study
book.
High lights of the Synodical
meeting held in Goderich recently
were given by Mrs. D. J. Lane.
This report brought inspiration
and• encouragement to all present.
A hymn and prayer by Mrs. Lane
closed the meeting.
A Bible quiz followed, conducted
by Mrs. Robert Scott and sent in
by Mrs. Clifton. Mrs. J. K. Mak-
ins assisted the hostess in serving
refreshments

tember. Under his supervision
British Mortgage has undertaken
a programme of expansion in all
phases of trust and estate services.
