there, Mr. and Mrs. Hartley at-
tende the three day Canada Life,
Assurance Conference at the bea-
utiful resort hotel "Boca Raton."

Local Kinette Club
Clinton Kinette Club met Tues-
day evening, April 28, with 19
members present, A cancer film
was shown by the Canadian Can-
cer Society.
Nominations were held followed
by election of officers for the corn-
ing year, as follows; past presid-
ent, Mrs. Frank 1VIcEwan; presi-
dent, Mrs, Donald Epps; vice-pres-
ident, Mrs. John Wilson; cecord-
ing secretary, Mrs. Clarence Den-
omme; corresponding secretary,
Mrs. Maitland Edgar; treasurer,
Mrs. Ross Colquhoun; registrar,
Mrs. Jack Evans; bulletin editor,
Mrs. Percy Brown.
Two delegates voted to attend
the District. No. 1 Convention in
Detroit in May were Mrs. Donald
Epps and Mrs. Clarence Denomme,
with Mrs. Maitland Edgar and
Mrs. Frank Cook as alternates.
Hostesses for the evening were
Mrs. Donald Young and Mrs. John
Wilson.
'Mother's Day Is Not
New In This Country
Mothers' Day as it is now ob-
served in Canada and the United
States is a custom only about 45
years old, This year it will be
marked on, Sunday, May 10, But
as long ago as the time of the
Romans, mother has had special
place in the list of special days
of many nations.
Institute Members
Make Known Their
Sunshine Sisters
Mrs. M. Batkin presided for the
Women's Institute meeting in the
agricultural office board room on
Thursday night, when members
answered roll call by paying fees
and pinning a corsage on their
Sunshine Sister.
Each year the Institute members
draw lots for a Sunshine 'Sister,
and through the year they take
special interest ,in sending cards
on special, occasions and generally
doing nice things for the person
whose name they draw, Then these
names are revealed, and new ones
are chosen for the next year.
A review of the year's work was
gone over. Mrs. N. Tyndall gave
a report on the 4-H Club, and of-
ficials we're installed.
Delegates to the district annual
on May 20 at St. Helen's are Mrs.
M. Batkin, Mrs, C. Sturdy, Mrs,
E. Radford, Mrs. W. Colclough,
Mrs. Ross and Mrs. M. Crich.
The Clinton WI is supporting
Mrs. Hossack, Embro, who has
been nominated for provincial pres-
ident.
The members decided that a sh-
ort course on making lamp shad-
es would be their first choice, and
the second choice would be "the
third meal".
Mrs. Bruce Cann and daughter
Susan sang a duet. Mrs. Elmer
Trick gave a humorous reading.
About 60 members attended the
Sunshine Sister Banquet which
followed with the social committee
in charge.

Huron Lodge LQBA No. 377 met
Tuesday, April 28, With 13 present.
Further plans were made for the
birthday banquet on May 26.
There will be no more card par-
ties this season. About 18 mem-
bers .plan to attend the meeting
and social evening in Seaforth on
May 4. Anyone interested please
contact Mrs. George Wilson, Jr.,
concerning a ride.
A film on cancer was shown in
the lodge rooms before the meet-
ing, and it was thoroughly enjoyed
by all the members.

Clinton Girl Guides
First Tea and .Bake,
Sale Is Successful
Receiving guests-at the door of
the council chamber on Saturday
afternoon, was Guide Diane Camp-
bell and the Guide Captain, Mrs.
H. A. ‘,'Bud" Graham, East Street.
This was the first bake sale and
tea to be held by the First Clinton
Girl Guide Company, and the girls
had decorated the council chamber
with tall tapers, fresh daffodils,
silver tea service and an especial-
ly decorated table for their bake
sale items. Lloy Ann Rutherford
was general convener in charge
of the event.
Pouring tea were two teams of
Margaret Gliddon and Marjorie
Woods, Barbara Corey and Diane
Cudmore, Serving were Lynda
Murphy, Nina McDonald and Lin-
da Nicholson.
Mrs, L. G. Winter, High Street,
was in charge of the tea arrange-
ments and assisting in the kit-
chen were Suzanne Bartliff, Jo-
anne Cudrnore, Barbara Carter,
Lloy Ann Rutherford and Cheryl
Rozell. 7
Mary Jean Colquhoun was cash-
ier for the bake sale, and the items
were sold by Heather Winter, Kar-
en Schefter, Barbara Pegg, Sally
Deeves and Faye Johnston.
There are 45 members in the
Guides, and they meet each Mon-
day evening in the Legion Mem-
orial Hall on Kirk Street. Money
from this sale and tea will go
partly toward a building fund for
a Guide building in Toronto, and
partly for buying badges and
camping this summer.
