McMurray, local chair- man of the annual campaign for funds for the Canadian Red Cross, has announced that the door-to- door canvass for this campaign will be conducted in the rural areas and town of Clinton on April 15, 16 and 17. • Objective for Clinton and dis- trict in the April campaign of the Canadian Cancer Society is $1,500, it was revealed this week by bran- ch president, Mrs. Frank Fingland. This represei'fts a portion of the $13,000 target set for the Huron unit of the society in its second year of operation. Last year, the unit raised slightly over $12,000 in its first campaign. A door-to-door canvass will be taged here the week of April 20- 25. Unit campaign chairman, R. E. Pooley, Exeter, announced this breakdown of the county object- ive: Goderich, $4,000; Exeter, $3,500; Seaforth, $1,500; Wing- ham, $1,000; Blyth, $500 In most areas, local banks will accept contributions from those who have been missed in the gen- eral canvass. Funds raised in Huron are used to finance service work here as well as general education and re- search programs carried on across Canada. During 1958, the Huron unit spent $1,800 on some 45 can- cer patients. ,An additional $700 was used to educate citizens , in the symptoms of cancer and the need for early diagnosis. Over $10,000 was forwarded to provincial headquarters in Toron- to to be used in research projects. "Thanks, to the support of the people of Huron, our unit is able 0 Maitland Edgar Al' Teachers Assembly Held At North Bay Maitland Edgar, Albert Street, arid teacher at A.Y.M. Hugh Campbell Public School, RCAF Station Clinton, was Huron Men Teachers representative at • North 13ay last week, at the two day as- sembly of men teachers held there, At the assembly a recommenda- tion was made by the 170 dele- gates present as follows: "The Ontario Public School Men Teach- ers' Federation, after diligent in- vestigation of all the factors in- volved, and on reaching a consid- ered conclusion that a member is inefficient. as a teacher, recom- mend to the Ontario Teachers' Federation the proper steps be taken to cancel the ' member's teacher certificates. The teacher is to be informed of each step be- ing taken." This is a plan to remove male public school teachers whose tea- ching has been judged grossly in- efficient over a number of years. If the recommendation is adopted by the Ontario Federation, it will be the first time that a teachers organization in Ontario has taken the initiative in drawing up plans which might deprive• some of its members of certification. A report received at the assem- bly showed that an increasing number of teachers were being paid on the principles of the OPSMFT salary policy. ---- VARNA Master Steven Clarke spent the Easter holidays with Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Clarke, Area, Divorce Granted Mr, Justice Kelly granted 49 divorce applications for judgement absolute in weekly court at Os- goode Hall in Toronto on April 3.
