The. Burns-Londesboro Young
People's Union met Sunday even-
ing with 32 members joining in a
sing-song. Worship period was
taken by Shirley Knox and Noreen
MeEwing, Pat Murch conducted
the business period. After a soc-
ial time lunch was served.

their March meeting at the home

Paper Drive
Weather permitting, the Young
People's Union of Brucefield Un-
ited Church are holding a paper
drive on Friday, April 3. It would
be helpf4„if bundles of magazines
and papers are tied securely when
the young folk arrive to collect
them.

a tidy sum. A social evening will
be held March 31, in the Sunday
School room, when Tom Allen will
show slides or a recent trip to
Florida. There will be a short
program of music and readings,
followed by a bake sale.
The Women's Institute will meet
on April 2, at 2 o'clock. Motto,
"Put your talents iri the WI and
watch them multiply" will be
taken by Mrs, Lloyd Pipe and roll
call, "My favourite meeting," A
film showing the development of
cancer will be shown. A good at-
tendance is hoped for.
Euchre Held
The Londesboro Community Hall
Board held a euchre ,on Friday,
March 29, with a good attendance
Winners were: ladies high, Mary
Buchanan; lone hands, Mrs. Ed,
Youngblut; low, Mrs. John Riley;
men's high, Donald Buchanan;
lone hands, Alex McMichael; low,
Percy Gibbings.

Prices were steady on both cat-
tle and pigs at Hensall Community
Sale last week. Butcher steers,
up• to $24.60; butcher heifers, up
to $23.20; butcher cows, $18.10;
butcher bulls, .$20.70; Holstein
calves, $13 to $34; Durham calves,
$36 to $55; veal calves, $32.50 per
cwt.; weanling pigs, $7.80 to $12;
chunks, $13.10 to $15.20; feeders,
$16 to $17.50; sows, $47 to $75;
boars,. $9.60 per cwt
480 pigs, 245 cattle and 75 cal-
ves were sold. Two ponies were
sold, one for $400 to a Hensall
man, and one for $164 to a Mit-
chell resident.

VARNA
Special services are being held
this week in the Varna and Gosh-
en United Churches. On Sunday
in the United Church the Easter
and Communion Service will be
held at 10.15 a.m. with the pastor,
the Rev. T. J. Pitt in charge. Also
in the evening at 7.30 p.m an Ea-
ster pageant will be presented by
the members of the choir.
The WA of the United Church
are sponsoring a play put on by
the Seaforth Junior Farmers, on
Tuesday evening, March 31, in the
township hall,
Mrs. E. Webster and Mrs, E.
Chuter have returned to their re-
spective homes in the village after
spending the' winter months with
their families.
RIPPER FARMERS PAY
$8,000 FOR ALBERTA BULL
Stanley Jackson and W. I. Mc-
Hugh, Kippen, paid top price of
$8,000 on March 20, at the 59th
Calgary bull sale and show for a
Hereford owned by James Hole of
Airdrie, Alta. The report was in
a Canadian Press dispatch prin-
ted in the daily press on Saturday.
The bull, Real Silver Prince 3M,
was one of a string of six sold by
Mr. Hole for a total of $23,800,
an average of $3,966 and the
highest for six head exhibited by
a single breeder at this year's
show.
