States OAC Expert
Many in Kitchen
The farm home is one of the
most dangerous areas of the whole
farm ,and more accidents occur
in the kitchen than in all other
rooms in the home combined. A
large part of these home accidents
result from falls, which• while not
usually fatal, cause many broken
bones and bruises and add up to
an alarming medical bill.
Most of these falls are a result
of carelessness, states Harold E,
Wright, Farm Safety Specialist,
Ontario Department of Agricul-
ture. None of us like to admit to
being careless, but we probably
all lapse at one time or another;
it is much easier to place those
jars on the second step, instead of
carrying them down to the base-
ment; we fully intend to take
there down next time we're going.
Unfortunately, this temporary
storage becomes a handy spot for
overshoes, baskets, the dustmop,
and a dozen other things that
make it hardly worth a separate
trip to the basement, All goes
well until you are carrying that
large carton down the stairs and
suddenly there is no stair, but a
fruit jar under your foot—and
you're on the roller coaster,
Remember that falls are one of
the main classes of accidents and
cause a great number of broken
bones and medical bills. Be care-
ful — and don't have a fall this
spring.
