It. IS very- gr6.ttifylog to know
that the book reviews have been
missed, The winter order Was a
little late going in to. the Publish-
ers and will be slower in being
filled, Also We have been very
busy putting into practice the de-
finition given by one small boy
when asked. to describe a librarian
lady that don't know nothin'
but knows where to find it,
Each year more and more stud-
ents from the Clinton schools learn
to use the library, when they want
material for assignments and es-
says. Anyone frequenting the ,Clin-
Public Library during the past
six weeks (after four in the after-
noon) would' agree that the boys
and girls of Clinton and vicinity
like to use the local library. If
We waited on you, with a dazed or
glazed expression it was only the
result of trying, quickly, to bring
ourselves back from a welter of
facts about the CommonWealth
and British possessions, The Am-
erican Revolutionary War and the
daily life of an Eskimo. It is a
real, pleasure to help the students
learn to use the reference books.
And speaking of reference books,
the newest and most welcome ad-
dition is the Encyclopedia Cana-
diana. It has been an invaluable
help in answering questions and
the presentation of •facts seems to
be most acceptable to the re-
searchers.
William "Tiger" Dunlop
(Carl F. Klinck)
For years we were tantalized by
the few facts that we knew about
William Dunlop. We could des-
cribe him as Doctor, writer, poli-
tician and the man who wrote one
of the most eccentric wills known
in Canada.
Carl F, Klinck of the University
of Western Ontario has compiled, a
volume of essays by and about
Dunlop. Early in his many-sided
career Dunlop was appointed as-
sistant surgeon to the 89th Regi-
ment of Foot and sailed for Que-
bec. He took part in the Canad-
ian-American War of 1812-14, In
HALL, Lihrarlen)
UV he sailed for. India in a ship
of which his brother Robert was
Captain, Re engaged in Journal,
ism in Calcutta until 1818 when
he returned to" medical practice
on. Sangbp, In 1819 jungle fever
sent him home to Scotland. After
recovery from the, fever he alter-
nated between journalism and the
practice of Medicine. In 1826
Dunlop joined John Galt in the
Canada Company and was .appoin-
to the Warden of the Forests.
This long-awaited book will help
us to be more fully acquainted
with facts concerning William
"Tiger" Dunlop, early pioneer of
Huron.
East To West
(Arnold J. Toynbee)
This is a different type of travel
book, written by an eminent Brit-
ish historian. On retirement, after
30 years in the Royal Institute of
International Affairs, he and his
wife set off on a 17-month journ.
ey around the world. Each chap-
ter is a fascinating gem of writing,
descriptive of past and present of
little known places in South Am-
erica, New Zealand, Australia, the
Far East and the Middle East. The
language iS beautiful, descriptive
and easy and the facts are inter-
esting and do not reach the point
of being burdensome. One does
not need to be a student of history
to enjoy this account of an unus-
ual journey around the world.
Around The World With Auntie
M a me
(Patrick Dennis)
This delightful bit of nonsense
takes us junketing around the
world too. We follow while Aun-
tie Marne ,entangles herself in un-
usual ways in Paris, London, Ven-
ice and the Middle East, It is
written in a light racy style and is
just the sort of book to help you
forget the snow and rain and the
too-long winter. During the sum-
mer before Patrick was scheduled
to enter college Auntie Mame de-
cided to broaden his horizons by
travel. It is very doubtful if his
experiences fitted him for any col-
lege currlculm. The situations are
amusing, the language is, breezy
and the humour is sustained
throughout the book.

Instruction under D. Silver-
thorne former instructor of fig-

championship results. A 13-year-
old Stratford skater, Donald Mc-

first Dominion title, when he won
the Canadian Junior Men's champ-

this month.
