Pee Wee Tryouts
For All.Star Team
The Pee Wee hockey players
from various clubs will try out,
on' Saturday night from 7-8 o'clock
to see who will make the all-star
team to compete in the Goderich
Pee Wee tournament at Easter.

HSSA Basketball
Clinton District Collegiate In-
stitute boys basketball teams
split a doubleheader in Goderich
yesterday afternoon. Clinton jun-
iors won by 49 to 26, while the
seniors lost a close one 42-38.
These were the first scheduled
games in HSSA play this season.
Junior Game
Ron Livermore's points alone
would have defeated Goderich in
the junior game; he scored 27 to
Goderich's 26 total. Other Clin-
ton junior scorers were Roger
Cummings 7, Paul Pickett 4,
Allan Cochrane 4, Ted Turner
1 and Larry Harper 6. Morris
with ten and Bower with six
were Goderich high point-getters.
Lodge, Baxter, Lindfield, Vroman
and McWhinney each got one
basket.
Senior Game
Clinton Senior team lost by on-
ly two baskets to a better bal-
anced Goderich team. Clinton's
38 points were racked up by Ken
Cummings with 15, Clayton Gro-
ves 9, Barry Pipe 7 and Paul
.Schoenhals 7.
The first home games in the
local gymnasium are next Wed-
nesday at 2.30-P.m. when Wing-
ham senior and junior boys are
the opposition.

Bantams Tie 3.3
In Very Close Game
Clinton and Zurich Bantams bat-
tled to a 3-3 tie in Zurich on Fri-
day night in the first half of a
doubleheader,
Laurie Colquhoun and Bruce
Cooper scored first period goals to
give Clinton ari early first period
lead.
R. Bannister scored for Zurich
at the 1.35 mark, but this goal
was made up when Borden Mc-
Rae Scored to make a 3-1 game at
the end of the second period,
However, in the third period the
Zurich team caught fire and scor-
ed two quick goals to tie the score

Goals In First Period
Beat Clinton Juveniles
With Tom Dick scoring three
goals the Seaforth Juvenilet de-
feated the locals by a 5-1 score in
the Clinton Lions arena last Mon-
day night.
Seaforth scored three goals in
the first period with Scoins and
Elliott scoring and Tom Dick get-
ting his first of three. Seaforth
increased their lead to 5-0 with
Dick gettieg two goals in the sec-
ond period,
Eric Sehelleriberger scored for
Clinton in the third' period to avoid
a shut-ont.
There -were eight , penalties cal-
led in the game With Clinton get-
ting tagged with five of them.

The main objective of the week
An enthusiastic meeting was
held at RCAF Station Clinton on
Monday evening this week to make
preliminary plans for a Minor
Hockey Day in Clinton Lions Ar-
ena on Saturday, January 31.
The meeting was called by F/S
Dan Truscott, who acted as chair-
man. Representatives of Sponsor-
ing groups of minor hockey, both
from town and the Station were
in attendance. Mayor Burton
Stanley of Clinton and Acting
Mayor F/S D, G. Hudson of
Adastral Park, attended and en-
dorsed the idea of holding a Minor
Hockey Day for the Clinton area.
Four minor games are planned
for January 31, commencing at 12
o'clock noon and continuing until
after -five o'clock.
From 12.00 to 12.30 two teams
of Squirts (under nine years of
age) from the Station will put on
an exhibition of hockey. At 12.45
the RCAF Bantam team plays the
Clinton Fish and Game. Club-spon-
sored Bantams.
The Clinton Kinsmen All-Star
Peewees take on the RCAF Pee-
wees from 2.15 to 3,15. " Most of
the RCAF team plays in the Clin-
ton Kinsmen Peewee League as
the Black Hawks. Out of this
league a team will be picked to

In a game played at Hensall
arena on Thursday evening the
local bantam team lost a very close
6-5 decision.
Bob Livermore and Bruce Coop-

losing effort. Craig Cox finished
the scoring for Clinton.
Chipchase and Chapman also
had two goal performances for
Hensall with Jones and Noakes
getting singletons.

a regular scheduled affair moved
up to Saturday afternoon from

Prizes to" be awarded the out-
standing player in each game, as
well as the best player on each
team. Interested groups have al-
ready promised prizes and stores
of a sporting nature are being
asked to make up the remainder
of the prizes,
Ladies groups at the Station
and in town are supplying sand-
wiches, and hot chocolate will be
served to the players' after each
game.
'The meeting decided to give all
the silver collection taken at the
arena doors on Saturday, to the
Kinsmen Peewee League, to be
used only to equip and outfit their
various teams, This successful
league comprises boys from both
the town and RCAF Station,
A final meeting will be held at
the Sergeants' Mess on Sunday
afternoon to finalize plans for
Clinton's first 'Minor Hockey Day,
Station and the town of Clinton,
there are 175 boys in organized or
supervised leagues this season. In
addition to this there ai-e many
more who did ,not make the num-
erous teams.
Theee are 30 Squirts (or Wee,-
Wees)n getting instruction at the
Station on outdoor natural ice
rinks. The Kinsmen Peewee Lea-
gue takes in over 90 boys, up to
12 year of age.
e Clinton and RCAF Station Ban-
tams each have 18 signed players
in WOAA competition. And the
Clinton Midgets have 16 boys reg-
istered in the WOAA Midget "C"
series. The Clinton Juveniles are
another minor team in organized
hockey this year.
Home games of both communit-
ies are played in Clinton Lions
Arena.

payers, and two ladles attended
the inaugural meeting of the Bay,
field .Village Trustee Board In the
village ball Monday evening.

members from $25 each to $50,

remove the steps down 'to the
lower level, which the village has
maintained for many years on pro-
perty now owned by Miss Lucy
Woods, was rescinded when the
board heard "from the ratepayers
present, A number of them used
the steps a good deal, and were
anxious to state their opinion,
that summer residents also would
miss the convenience of the Steps.
The .ratepayers were welcomed
to the meeting by Chairman Fea-
therston who remarked that there
were more people present" then
had attended • throughout 1958:

with1 a 7-4 victory over the Zurich
Midgets in the second half of a.
doubleheader played in Zurich
arena last Friday night.
Ron Livermore was the big gun
,for Clinton scoring three of his
team's goals while for Zurich Ger-
ard Overholt banged in two.
Draper got the locals off on the
right foot as he scored the first
goal in the first period to give
them a goal lead.
Zurich tied the score at the 12
minute mark of the second period.
One minute later Livermore scored
his first goal and Yeo banged in
one minutes later. Near the end
of the period Overholt scored for
Zurich,
Two quick goals early in the
third period gave ,Zurich a 4-3
lead. Overholt scored his second
goal and Bedard got the other..
At this tiihe the locals really
caught fire, as four goals, two by
Livermore, and one each by True-
cott and Allen, clinched the game
for Clinton. The game featured
plenty of fast, well-played hockey,
in which only four penalties were
handed out, two to each team,

Red Wings Easy 5-0
The Black Hawks, representa-
tives from Adastral Park in the
Kinsnien Pee Wee League, mov-
ed into first place Friday with an
easy 5-0 -victory over, the town
Red Wings,
The Black Hawks ability to fin-
ish off their plays around the op-
position's goal proved the deciding
factor in the game, however the
Red Wings gave every indication
they will be strong contenders by
the time the play-offs roll around.
All three Black Hawk lines fig-
ured in the scoring: P. Burns, 1;
G. Logan, 1, one assist; S. Westie,
I; R. Cotrell, 1; C. Dark, 1; C.
Crockett, 1 assist; E, Fafard earn-
ed the shutout.

Ratepayers noted that fire in-
suraece rates had been lowered in
the village owing to the,good pro-
tection of the volunteer fire brig-
ade in Bayfield, but also com-
mented on •the.' fact that the fire
brigade would be not much good
if the snow were not removed,

The occasion marks one of the
few times when a single RCAF
Unit has been so honoured. As a
normal rule, personnel for such
Guards are drawn from several
RCAF stations. In the case of
Clinton, all aircraftman members
of the Guard are students at No,
1 Radar and Communications Sch,-
ool,- most of whom have been M
the RCAF for only four to six
months. -
The Guard will form up at the
University Avenue Armouries in
Toronto at 1.30 p.m. Thursday
and the Colours will be marched
on and uncased at that time. The
parade will then depart from the
Armouries at 2 p.m. and march to
the Provincial s Parliament where
they will be in position for inspec-
tion by the Lieutenant-Governor
at 2.35 p.m. After the ,ceremony
-the Guard will march back to the
University Armouries before being
dismissed.
