to $75 ... The reason is that some'
months ago a salesman convinced,
40 housewives that they could
earn $1 an hour by buying his
knitting machines . . It later be-
came obvious that even an exper-
ienced operator could make only
ten cents an hour. • . •

THOUGH THERE IS NO CON
test being conducted for the love-
liest home:decorated for Christmas
this year ... that has not stopped
a lot of folk from carrying out the
same idea ... If you have time to
wander around town sometime
during the next two weeks, it
would be well worth the trouble
We have noticed the George S.
Elliott home on Cutter Street and
the George F. Elliott home on
Rattenbury West; the • Frank Mc -

There's likely lots more .. .

T H E - WELL -ORDERED ANTI -
Rabies Clinic held in the council
chamber in Clinton on Monday af-
forded many interesting and un-
usual spectacles, as all sorts and
conditions of canines and felines
were hauled, lugged or dragged in.
It' was a motley and interesting
crew—some of both species had
their tails at half-mast, others held
their gaily aloft like flying ban-
ners.
Of peculiar interest to us was
the procession of cats to this clinic
and•the devious methods by which
they were conveyed hence,
There were the trusting souls
who with no leash attached
brought in the little woman's pet
Persian and had to cope with a
verevecterrovectervi
wildcat, innocent of restraining
cord.
One man built like Yukon Eric
had a small cat tied, up in one
corner of a big bag, looking for all
the world like a suet pudding
ready to boil in a pot.
The animals reacted to the sud-
den sharp thrust of the needle just
as humans do—some let out pierc-
ing yelps and others never batted
an eye.
The out-patients from the country
were most interesting to us, re-
acting individually to their first
trip to main street. We saw one
farmer hopelessly tangled up with
two frisky collies with long leashes
of binder twine. One big farmer
made several trips to the hall,
each time carrying a crate nailed
down in a way that would have
insured safe delivery to Timbuctu.
After his motley crew was "done"
each lid was nailed down again for
the return trip.
Another farmer brought in a
large apple hamper; when the lid
was pried off, three heads shot
out. -.There was variety here: a
swansdown fluffy cream Persian;
a sleek white cat with a Siamese
face and no tail at all and another
grey and white garden variety
kitten.
What invoked our greatest ad-
miration was the ingenuity of one
determined lady who conveyed her
magnificent cats one at a time in a
big garbage can with the lid down
tight; off came the lid and out
popped an enormous tiger cat with
madder markings (no pun intend-
ed). She carried them a consider-
able distance from her residence.
And so it went on all day. We
saw one man get his' dog done,
then he sat down on a nearby
bench to stay and view proceed-
ings. We wished we had time to
do the same.

C: Fisher who passed away Dec

Your voice we can not hear,
We never lose sweet memories

In loving memory of a dear hus-
band and father, Joseph Webster,
who. passed away December 16,
1956:
"It's lonesome here without you
And sad the weary way,
For life is not the same to me
Since you were called away.
Days of sadness of't come o'er me,
Dears of silence often flow,
For memory keeps you near me
Though you died two years
ago."
