Mrs. Wardby Burton was presented with a pair of plaques in honour of her long service in the lodge, where she has had the treasurer's chair for approximately 15 years. A draw on a fruit cake was made and won by Henry Sloman. Lunch was served. 0 CDCI Hi-Lites (By Frances ]McCullough) Last Friday's commencement held in the school auditorium was very successful. A beautiful ar7. ray of cookies was served by Mrs. Whetham and some of the Grade 10 girls to the graduates and their parents. Plans are being made for the annual At Home but no definite date has been named yet. Stu- dents council is planning a dance in the auditorium next Friday night, December 12, Day After Christmas Will Be Holiday Councillors Decision Boxing Day, on December 26 (Friday this year) will be a holiday in Clinton this year. Mayor W. J. Miller was auth- orized to' issue a proclamation to this effect at the December meeting of council last Thurs- day evening. Eastern Star Draw December 20 For Three Turkeys Featured on December 20 in down town Clinton will be a draw for three turkeys conducted by the Clinton Chapter, Order of the East- ern Star, Tickets are now on sale by members of the Star. At the regular meeting of the lodge last Thursday, a carol sing was held. Two draws were won by Mrs, Annie Venner and Mrs. I. M. Elliott. Preliminary plans were laid for the spring bazaar. Games week will be sometime in January or February. Lunch was served by Mrs. Joseph Hart. T MINUTE. • • • :N(i Pio .04\ AIL AL It= 4, D ili ''.7$017,1r11TrriTlrfore mate, 0 Y r 0UR 1.54 Mrs. Fred Ross Auburn commmunity was sad- dened last Friday evening, Decem- ber 5 to learn of the passing pf Mrs, Fred Rosa, after a week's ill- ness, in Alexandra Marine and General. Hospital, Goderich, where she succumbed to a cerebral hem- orrhage and a coronary thrombosis. Mrs. Ross was before her mar- riage, Edith Florence Duff, daugh- ter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Duff and was born on December 15, 1887 at Dungannon. On August 17, 1915, she was married to Frederick Ross who passed away November 6, 1934. In 1935 she and her only son Donald moved to Auburn where she kept house for her brother-in-law, the late James Medd, Mrs. Ross was a valued member of Knox Presbyterian Church, where she attended faithfully, At the time of her death she was a life member of the WMS, treasur- er of WMS, Home Helpers secre- tary of Huron Presbyterial, secre- tary-treasurer of the Auburn Pub- lic Library, a director of the Au- burn Women's Institute and a member of the Holticulture So- ciety. During the last war she was secretary for the Auburn. Red Cross and for over 25 years was organist of the Presbyterian Ch- urch, Dungannon, Mrs. Ross had for many years sent the news of Auburn and com- munity to the Clinton News-Record for publication, and was a valued correspondent. She also reported news to the London Free Press. Besides her son, Donald, Oak- ville (74 Riverside Drive), she is survived by two grandchildren, Janice and Catherine Ross, Oak- ville. She was predeceased by one brother, Ernest Duff of Leaming- ton and one sister, Ethel, Mrs. James Medd. The body rested at the J. K. Arthur funeral home until Mon- day, December 8, when Rev. D. J. Lane conducted the funeral service in Knox Presbyterian Church. Mrs. R. 3. Phillips was organist. Interment took place in Dungan- non Cemetery. Pall-bearers ewre Duncan MacKay, Ralph Munro, Ed. Davies, Oliver Anderson, Heb- er Eedy, Dungannon and John Graham, Oakville. The many beautiful floral trib- utes were a silent memorial to a good friend and neighbour. Friends were present from Leamington, Windsor, London, Oakville, Luck- now, Dungannon and Goderich.
