TV Farm Forum
SS 4 FARM FORUM
(By Mrs. I. Merrill)
The SS No. 4 Goderich Township
Farm Forum met on Tuesday night
at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
James Lobb, with ten members in
attendance. The topic for this week
on TV was "Performance or Per-
sonality-which one deserves the
red ribbon?"
The question was asked: by
what standards do you buy your
stock? It was decided that dairy
stock is not bought for size alone
but by general apeparance of a
good dairy cow, by R.O.P. testing
records, and by cost accordingly.
For beef cattle, we want feeder
cattle which have the ability to
grow, to use feed to reproduce
and to live a healthy life.
Today's showring standards are
showing beef cattle with too much
fat to be a thrifty buy for the
butcher. The housewife does not
want beef which, is too fat. We
wish to see the good looks of the
animals maintained, and we think
the people should be educated to
believe that beef fat is necessary
to a certain extent for nutrition
as well as for flavour in cooking
It would be a benefit to know
the R.O.P. of dairy cattle being
put in the showring. We think
there should be different stand-
ards for judging.
"500" was played, and lunch
was served.
The meeting next week will be
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R.
E. Thompson, on Monday night.
