Offer Them Now
IF YOU HAVE apartments or houses to
rent, now is the time to offer them.
There has been a particularly widespread
turnover in population of Clinton this sum-
mer. However, it appears there will be more
Air Force personnel requiring accommodation
now than the number posted out in early
July,
In the meantime there have been several
new families move to town, because their work
is with the natual gas installation. A number
of these will be permanent residents,
There are 37 family units making use of
the trailer camp in town — but even this is
not enough to supply the demand.
Actually, since many of these new Clinton
residents are young people with families, it is

No less than 27 people were
'killed in the streets. of Toronto
in 19117 by motor ears and the
record for 1918 is: climbing up.
The right of way on the street
is not owned by every fellow were

Damage to the extent of $1,000
was caused by fire at 3 o'clock
Friday afternoon, when a spark

to the warehouse of the Doherty
Piano Company, wmch, is close to
the freight sheds. Very little da-
mage was done to the freight
sheds, The fire, which wag mak-
ing great headway when the fire
department arrivett would no
doubt 'have wiped out ,the entire
building if it had not been for
the quick 'agapn of the brigade,
who made a record run and had
two streams! on the blaze in a
short time. •
Mr. and Mrs. John Hartley and
Miss Pauline, Vankleek Kill, were
guests over Sunday with Mr. and
Mrs. J. L. Kerr. They went to
Goderich 'on Monday

IL E. Rorke has resigned his
Position foreman of the Mach-
inery department of 'Doherty !pia-
nos, Limited, and on Tuesday even-
ing a number of the men from the
department went down to his home
end presented him with a hande
some mantle clook. The 'accomp-
anying address was signed' by
J. IL 'Kerr, T. J. Managhan, A.
C. Streets', M, D. Deevee. T. Cart-
er, Iddo Crich, G. Cook, J, C.
Townsend, S. Kemp, Mr. Rorke
has' been with the Doherty people
'for 22 years and for 15 'has been
foreman of the machinery depart-
ment. He was popular both with
the filen and with the men and
his leaving is a matter of regret.
He is also a popular and public
spirited citizen and it is hoped
'that he 'does not contemplate
leaving 'Clinton, but he has not
yet fully decided 'as to his future
plans.
C, F. Libby has purchased a.
new Baby Grand Chevrolet car
from J. B. Laois.
W. J. Nediger received a mess-
age this morning informing him
that 'his son, A. C. Nediger, h.ad
died 'of wound's in the Casualty
Clearing Hospital, France, on Aug-
ust 21. Austin enlisted in the 161st
Battalion in Clinton several mon-
ths before his 18th birthday. He
went 'to France last spring and
was !attached to the 47th Canad-
ian Infantry Battalion. He was
eldest son of the family. The
stricken parents have the symp-
athy of the community.

Russell. Jervis has put in 'a fine
stock of flour and feed and has
taken 'over two of the vacant
stands 'in the Perrin Block, Rat-
tenbury Street, using the old of-
fice of the Jackson Company for a
storeroom.
A girl and a boy from Clinton
will. visit 'the' 'Canadian National
Exhibition this year as guests of
the Wrigley people in their an-
niversary plan o.f 'taking 500 bays
and girls to the E. The work of
choosing 'the boys and girls from
each municipality was left to the
mayor, or a committee of teachees,
!from the Public School and the
Collegiate', and they named Jack
West of the POI*? 5cbcpil, aged 12
and. Violet .Fremlin of the Colleg-
iate, aged 13.
Duncan Cartwright of the' Brue-
sels Post was home over the week-
end and' Is: this week in Toronto.
the Post deciding 'to holiday this
week.
Clinton is the site this week,
and will be for another ten days
or so, of a tented city. A company
of men 'from the' Department of
National Defence set 'up tents' in
the 'town plot, Mary Street, and
are working out from. Clinton., a
radius' of 15 miles or so. The party
is: engaged in making surveys nec-
essary' for the making of topo-
graphical Maps, taking in all the
valleys, streams, etc. and came on
here from Wingharn.

chief Clerk 'of 'Clinton Branch of

our to their home town at the le-
cent annual matches of the Do-
minion of Canada Rifle Associa-
tion held at the .Connaught Rang-
es, near Ottawa. They are both
Members of 'the Clinton. Revolver
Club. From hundreds of contest-
ants' from all parts of Canada,
Messers, Epps and Smith both
gained places on the 1'0 man .22
