Clinton Community Park was
without doubt busier on July. 12-
than
2than; it has been for many a year..
It was used initially for the as,
sembly, .of the 59 lodges taking
part in the walk, and an estimated.
1,800 per filled the .centre of
the oval before parade time.
From the time the parade left
the William Street entrance to the
park, until the leading lodge re-
entered the park through the main
gate, was .almost an hour, and
there were five lodges yet wait-
ing to move off.
Thirty-eight bass drums and 63
kettle drums, snare -drums or ten-
or drums were included in the 35
bands taking part in the walk.
There were nine pipe 'bands, two
brass bands, one flute band and
23 fife and drum units included..
In charge of arrangements was
Harry Crich, Worshipful Master
of the Clinton lodge,
The grandstand was filled as
the weary Orangemen and ladies
prepared for the speaking program.

"The Orange Order will stand
firm on its belief that any national
flag for Canada should include the
Union Jack," said Harold Watson,
London, principal speaker at the
open-air meeting which followed.
"The Walk:'
"We believe that the Union Jack
should be the flag of the Empire,"
he said, "If it should be found
necessary to have a distinctive
Canadian flag, the Orange Order
would be content if the distinctive
Canadian flag should include the
Union Jack."
"Remember that your national
anthem is God Save the Queen,"
said Mr. Watson. He said he had
nothing but approval for the school
children at Barrie who recently
were reported to have stood to
sing "God Save the Queen", and
sat down to sing "O Canada."
"The song, "0 Canada," said Mr.
Watson, "was written for a French
Jubilee in the City of Quebec. It
is not the national anthem of an
English-speaking country."
