al sermons in the *Methodist church

on Sabbath last. Sermons were
preached on Sunday by Rev T A
Murray, of St Andrew, London, and
tea meeting on Monday evening. A
refreshing time was had,—One• day

Brown attempted suicide by trying to
cut his throat with a razor. The
old man was sent down to the capital.
But after a thorough investigation the
old manwas sent home and tam told
that his friends have been instructed
to take better care of him in future
and treat him more human or else
they will have to try a spell at the
county fail. The poor oldman lives
with his only daughter who 'has no
family to look after. They are in
favorable elroutnatanoes and should
take better care of the old man.—
Hess Bros factory started on Monday
last under the name of Hess Bros &
Co, Mr George Hess, M P P, Mr
Adam Hess and a • gentleman from,
Toronto constitute the firm. They
are said to have lots of backing. So
mote it be.—A. gun club has been
started in town with nearly 100 mem-
bers. The report of guns is contin-
ually, heard now shooting at the arti-
ficial pigeons who . soar away ' very
nicely, from the trap, But I notice
few of them get shot.

The annual anniversary and, har-
vest hoine, in -connection with the
Methodist Church, will be held neat
.week. On Sunday, 13th, the. Rev.
John Scott, M. A:, of Wingham,
Chairman of the District, will preach

Hartley at 7 p. m. On Tuesday even•
ing following, the annual harvest
home dinner will be , served in the
Foresters'. hall from• 5 to 7 .p. m.
After the tea, a platform meeting
will be held in the Methodist church,
when addresses may expected from
Revs. John Scott, M. •A., A. Y.. lfart-
ley,•S. Sellery, B. 1)., of Brussels,
and R. Godfrey, of Belgrave. Also, a
programme of songs, duets, recita
tions, &,e., will be rendered. The
Wingham Methodist church orchestra.
will take part in the programme.—Mr'

Harriston.
The other evening Mr. J. L. Sturdy,
of this place, returned Home on a late
train, and when coming off the plat-
form 'at the depot he, in the darkness,
missed the step• and fell heavily to the
ground, a distance of about five feet.
Mr. Sturdy hurt his shoulder badly,
and so injured his hip that he is forced
to move around on crutches since.-

Mrs. P. Kelly, wife of our worthy
Reeve, who passed peacefully away on
Sunday morning last at the age of 58
years, 8 months, The funeral lett her
late ]residence on Tuesday at 11 o'clock
and proceeded to the Roman Catholic
ehuroh, thence to the Roman Catholic
burying ground, in Morris. , She
leaves two daughters, a step son and a
faithful, husband to mourn her loss
The bereaved family has the heartfelt
sympathy of all who know them.—A
