Clerk-Treasurer
Of Huron County
Huron 'County Council' has ap-
pointed John G. Berry county
clerik-tregswrOrt to succeed
Erskine, on a temporary basis
until the November session of
council'. The appointment was
made 'at a secilail meeting of coun-
cil' on Thursday.
Mr. Erskine died two weeks ego
after 30 years' 'service as clerk-
treasurer. Mr. Berry has been
assistant clerk-treasurer for sev-
eral years.
'Warden J'o'hn Morrissey, expres-
sing his regret at the need for the
special rneetiing, said the County
of Huron had lost 'a "-great ad-
mirvilstrator in Mr. Erskine and an
officer it would be very difficult
to replace," He asked council to
observe a moments silence in his
memory.
Mr. Berry will receive as salary
of $8,400 as acting clerk-treasurer.
At the same time, council appoint-
ed Mrs. Eleanor Erskine, as' tem-
porary deputy clerk-treasurer.

Me 15th 'annual reunion of the
Stuart Smillie Clan was held at
the Lions Park, Seaforth on Sat-
urday, July 5, .attended by ap-
proximately 100 ,descendants and
their families. Fred Howe, presi-
dent, acted as master of ceremon-
ies. About 30 gathered for an
informal noon luncheon. The child-
ren enjoyed the aftenroon with
swimming in the pool while the
others visited.
Many of the clan gathered from
diStant paints for the occasion
These included Mrs. Mary Gray,
Allvinston; Alex and Dr. Jennie
Robertson, Toronto; Dr. and Mm,
A. B. &Mille, Niagara Falls; Mr.
and Mrs. A. E. Howe and Betty,
Hyde Park; Mr. and Mrs. John.
Elder, Oshawa; Mr. end Mrs. Lin-
ton Taylor and family, Toronto;
Mrs. Lyle Statham and Jim, Kings-
ville; Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Eat-
well, Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Elliott and family, Blyth.- A pro-
gram of sports was conducted by
Sharon, and Judy Fader, but rain
cult this short. The evening meal
saw the usual good turnout of the
clan.
Harold Shepherd, Toronto, was
elected president ,for the coming
year and -Delbert Geiger, Zurich,
will be the new vice-president.
Lorne Elder had available a re-
cently completed copy of the Elder
family tree. This tree included
the descentdants William Elder
born in Scotland in 1795. Many
of 'this family are also members
of the Smtii,llie Clan. Next year's
picnic will' 'be held in 'the same
location.
