Sebringville midget baseball team gave the Clinton Legion Mid- gets a scare in the first of the ninth inning when they scored four runs and came within one of tying the score. They left the bases fell when the last man struck out. Clinton had scored in every one of the first six in- nings and led i3-3 going into the ninth. The game was in -the com- munity park here Saturday even-ing. Ken Engelstad who pitched the full nine innings had 11 strike- out and issued only five walks. Sebringville used two pitchers and together they had five strikeouts. SA A. W. Stinson• Transferred To RCAF Stn. Trenton The transfer was announced to- day of an RCAF officer who has been well knownin the Clinton and Seaforth areas for many years. He is Squadron Leader A. W. "Al" Stinson, Chief Instructor of the Radar and Communications School at RCAF Station Clinton, who has been transferred to Train- ing Command Headquarters, Tren- ton, Ont., where he will take tip a position on the Ground Training Staff. ' S/L Stinson has served, many years in the Clinton area, from shortly after the war Until 1949 and again from October 1954 to the present. He efilisted in the RCAF as a radar technician in 1941 in Port Arthur, was trained at the University of Manitoba and served overseas for most of the duration of the war. He was commissioned in 1944 in North Africa. He returned to Canada in January 1945. Since the war he has served at Clinton, Tofino, B.C., Summerside, P.E.I., and Air Force Headquarters in Ottawa from whence he came to Clinton in 1954. S/L Stinson was particularly active in curling activities in the area and was a member of the Seaforth Curling Club. He also took an active part in affairs of the RCAF Station and was presi- dent of the Officers' Mess Corn- mittee. He will be accompanied to Tren- ton by his wife, Maude, and their two children, Gail, 10, who was born in Clinton and Charles, 6. 0 Clinton Bantams Win Last Night's Game In Exeter by 3-1 Score Clinton Bantam Baseball team scored their first win of the sea- son last night over Exeter, The score was 3-1 in a well played game at the Exeter sports field. Highlighting the win for Clin- ton was the pitching of Roger Cummings, and the defensive play of Donnie Lockwood in centrefield who made five put-outs on hard hit balls. This gives Clinton one win and one loss. Next game is Tuesday evening against the RCAF team at Station Clinton Sports Field. Earl Doucette Wins Venner Trophy At Kippen Gun Club Earl Doucette, Clinton, posted 49-50 to win the tenth annual Vernier Trophy shoot at Kippen Gun Club on June 4. In the run- ner-up position was Jack Gilbert, Goderich, with 47-50, Later in the shoot, Gilbert scored 50 straight„ in another event to become the first marks- man to accomplish this feat in Kippen Club history. Junior Farmers. Trophy Goes To. North Huron The coveted H. R. Baker Meet- ing Improvement Trophy was won this year by the North Huron Junior Farmers, and presentation was made at the Perth-Huron Junior Farmer Field Day held last Saturday in Exeter. Score of the winning club was 1,270 out of a possible 1,500. Sec- ond place went to Seaforth (1955 winners) with 1.084 points; then Clinton with 1,061; Wawanosh 1,028 and Howick with 991 points. Jim Bowman, president of the winning club received the trophy which was presented first three years ago by Harold Baker, then the assistant agricultural repres- tentative for the county to en- courage the improvement of the calibre of regular club meetings.
