A health official from the land
to the south of us has said "Try
as hand :as I will I cannot thin*
of anything that has a more cOin-
‘plete set of vitamins than Straw-
berries and ice cream!" And try
as hard as we will, We can't
thlinIC of a Mare flavorful way to
Stock up on thOse vitamins, In
fact, we . can't think of any better
foods' to team up with the inec-
ilous Ted strawberries than
the dairy foods, cream, milk, foe
cream, evaporated 'milk, and cot-
tage cheese.
June, you know, is Dairy Mon-
th in Canada . . . and that Pelle-
bration always suggests to us
such a host of ideas for good eat-
ing for the month of June and
on into the summer that we al-
ways plan to carry the festivities
right into these pages. We do this
by passing along to you some of
the variety of ways there are to
serve our fine dairy products in
summer meals from here on in.
If it's zee food value for your
money that you're looking for,
then splurge on this dairy food-
strawberry duo, because in addi-
tion :to what cur American expert
has to say about them, we can
also keep in, mind' that however
you choose - to serve them, dairy
foods guarantee liberal servings
of health in every serving. When
it comes to strawberries", . . the
other half of the couple pledged
to "grAiing steady" . . . let's re-
member to use them often while
in season, for they're a pretty
fair source Of vitamin C. A nice
change too from the citrus fruits
that supply us with that commod-
ity most of the year.. Strawberries,
by the way, were so named be-
cause originally the berries were
brought to the market on straws.
That was: a long time ago of
course', since 'they were under
cultivation as early as the l5th
century, and their marketing has
kept 'fair pace with modern mer-
chandizing.
So dairy foods and strawberries
it is for this Dairy Month of June.
Not, mind you, that we feel that
one month 'helongs exclusively to
the dairy foods, for they're good
the year 'round. However, June
does have quite a monopoly on
those big red berries and in com-
bination with dairy foods, provide
us: with an edible Sp:11010Y in
red and White, and the inter-
Mingling pink! Perhaps you'd like

If you're lucky enough to own
a set of shrimp compotes, the
kind of extra-large' sherbert with
its' own glass liner (usually out-

and liner tilled with shrimp) you
can make the elegantly simple
dessert of ice' cream and straw-

ling the liner with generous
spoonfuls of ice cream, and ring-
ing it with plump red strawber-
ries, 'complete with, stem, nestled
round the liner, on top of chipped
ice. Seems' to he the vague in
California, and a very smart idea
for anywhere in June.
