$86,000.To Be Spent On
Grand Bend Harbour
Announcement was made in Ot-
tawa on Monday that $86,000
would be spent on harbor im-
provements in Grand Bend,
During the past several years
fishing tugs have been having
trouble getting in and out of the
harbor due to the shallow water,
and this' should greatly help the
problem. Announcement of when
the work be done has not
been made as yet.
In an effort to assist fishermen,
'and tourist traffic, 'another 400
feet of steel pipe wall will be ad-
ded to the east limit of the south
pier. 'Some 14,000 cubic yards
will be dredged from the harbor
to permit a depth of six feet.

evening the .Brussels. Morris &
Grey telephone held open house
in their new exchange. They are
to be eompliniented on their fine
new home. Some 'individuals in
particular, and the subscribers in
general 'deserve a great deal of
credit for their energy and busi-
ness understanding in keeping this
municipal system an operation,'
This brings to mind several
questions. Why is this system suc-
cessful when so many others are
selling out to a large corporation?
The answer perhaps' can't be
found easily but there are two
factors that are vital. First is
leadership, This must be ener-
getic and capable, but the best of
leaders fail unless there is active
support from the membership.
Where both are strong success
is assured. If either is weak,
deterioration follows and' where
both' are indifferent failure re-
sults'. This could be applied to any
organization.
Is it this vital combination of
leadership and membership that
makes the family fann success-
ful? I believe it is this that keeps
so many small businesses in opera-
tion. Recently I was told that
unemployment payments have
been costing the government F5,-
000,000 a month. This is a direct
subsidy to large corporations since
the Government is supporting
their employees. for part of the
year.
There are those who claim the
enterprise must be very large to
be efficient yet many of these
large 'operations: can only support
their employees for part of the
year, while the small' inefficient
( ?) family farm supports its lab-
our force for the full year. Per-
haps we're suffering from a "big"
complex.
I hope the young ladies have'rit
forgotten the County Dairy Prin-
eelss contest. There is a trip to
Britain for the Dairy Queen this
year. Also, we would welcome any
member of the Federation of Ag-
riculture who cares, to sit in on
the county Directors meeting,
