The characters .are French-Canadian and are well drawn by a hand that knows them and:matey. It is difficult to decide about the type of trans- lotion, the author writes in French and this reader was confused as the feeling persisted that it was a French exercise. Snatches of the book were reread and it could well be that this type of trans- Westinghouse Speed Electric Range Custom Imperial 30 Model AL-30 O Automatic Surface Unit O Roast Guard O Colour Glance Controls O Automatic Timer O Reversible Oven Racks 30"m 7/ RANGES $2A0 */10 OC Fro Clinton Electric Shop D. BATH TANGLE (By Georgette foyer) Lady Serena 'Carlow and the Dowager Countess of Spenborough sit talking while they wait for the reading of the will of 'the late Lord Spenborough. The lady Serena, belying her name, is very passionate by nature and Fanny, her step-mother, five years her junior, is timid and unsure of herself. The announcement that Lord Rotherham:, her former fian- ce, 'ifs to be trustee of her estate causes Serena to indulge in a tan- talum.. The period of mourning cur- tails their social activities, and their loneliness and boredom is relieved when Serena suggests taking a house in. Bath. These beautiful young women are soon entangled, socially and romantic- ariPy, in ways that could happen only in Bath during Regency times. As 'expected everything is, solved to the satisfaction of alt. Georgette Heyer has ran intim- ate knowledge and understanding of that Iperiod in English hiStory and can weave bold and fascinat- ing characters through the intric- ac'ias of Bath Society. "Bath Tan- gle" will hold your interest to the end of the story. In the library are two other books by Georgette Heyer, "The ToNtsgate", another intriguing yarn. of the days of Regency, and "Det- ection Unlimited", a modern novel of mystery, which the author does rather cleverly but not with the brilliance and sureness of her Regency novels. JUST BE YOURSELF (By Mary Bard) As the mother of three small active girls, Mary Bard, sister of Betty (The Egg and I) Mac- Donald, writes about that period in their lives when the girds had one ambition: to join a 'Brownie pack. Their zeal is intensified because the llst of would-be mem- bers fair exceeds the number per- mitted in a pack. Children are not known to wait patiently or quiet- ly. Mother solves the problem by becoming 'a leader. Although a- round for two years "Just Be Yourself" has only recently found itself on our reading list Mary Bard's earlier books were much enjoyed. They are "The Doctor Wears Three Faces" and Forty Olthr. We hope that readers of the Clinton News-Record have enjoy- ed the teCks about hav e and. that sometimes they have foUnd Them useful In marking selections. Suggestions from readers will be Welcome. If you wish information about certain hooks or types of honks' in the library, please let know and we will work to- wards that goal.
