Carl Hulled Township Federation of Agriculture met May 8 and I was interested to find the directors handing in the results of the can- vass for the County Cancer Fund. M every township meeting I have attended in the past few months I have found the directors so occupied and realizing that all too often this kind of work goes un- mentioned T would like to express appreciation to all township Fed- eration members who take part in this work. Also at this meeting / waS happy to find a good representa- tion of ladies. All too often a farm woman is the unpaid hired man that is left at home when business is being transacted. Farm women can also play an im- portant part by acting as informa- tion directors. Many times the men find it impossible to hear the news and farm reports on radio and television, 'The ladies might be able to take a few notes and pass on the information. • Along with the other business of the meeting a bus trip to the OAC at Guelph was arranged for Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Hesk .and Mr. and Mrs. Alva McDowell. and. This will take about 35 but if more want to go another bus can be procured, Those int- erested should contact Percy Gib- bings by May 31. A few days ago I noticed a re- port in a daily paper that the cost of living index had risen in the past month due to the increase in the price of beef and eggs. To- day I noticed an editorial com- ment that the farm index had risen 2.4 percent. I don't recall hews items or editorials reporting a drop in the cost of living and drop in the farm index when beef prices dropped drastically last fall and when eggs were much Cheaper than average throughout 1957. It is most difficult to maintain good urban-rural relations in face of onesided reports.
