Bob Munn placed second in piano grade 6, and first in violin, grade 12 and under, at Mitchell Music Festival on Friday, Bob, Cricket, the frisky young beag- le at "middievvood", has been weekending. Anyone knows that despite the pleasure, it is rather exhausting rushing here and there to crowd' in everything. Yes, after being on! the leash all week, Young Master took her to Green Valley on Saturday af- ternoori. She ran about to !her hearts content—started' a rabbit and gave 'tongue as, she chased it, Finally, the 'bunny, having sue- ces'sfully lured Cricket away from her nest circled and 'back tra*-ed throwing her off the scent, It had been fun but she didn't mind much for young Master and his pal had wandered into the bush. And she must keep track of them. There they were, climbing up the trunk of a !beech tree which had been uprooted and supported at an' angle by its branches, (Cricket followed them up. There might possibly be. racoons up at the top, if it were hollow! But it wasn't. Young Master and his' Pal climbed down the, branches and so 'Cric'ket must needs jump to earth. ,It seemed a long way down, and she whined a bit, But once she'd made the plunge, it wasn't as bad as thinicing about it. And then Cricket went on 'the raft on the pond with the lads. She'd have liked ,to watch 'the fish below, but she (dichirt get a chance. She really was !glad to get off that raft, for with the way they rocked back and forth, she had a queer, gone feeling in the pit 'of her tummy, Finally Young 'Master and his Pal grew hungry, and so they wended 'their way home. (Cricket was! so tired that she flopped herself down in her bas- ket and went sound asleep. Then', after Sunday School on Sunday, Young Master and a Pal decided that they'd go on another expedition. It was (ahnost too good to 'be true! Mrs. Housewife made pocketed !Cricket's favourite bils- sandwiches and Young Master cut ts, Of (course Cricket had to obey civil laws and stay 'an' 'the leash until they were well out of the village. As they tramped along, they spied a groundhog under a rail- way tie at one' end of the bridge. Cricket was furious because she was held back while one of 'the companions tried to poke the an- imal out, Mr. Groundhog had no notion of coming out. So 'they released Crieket. She dashed back and forth Makino a great row, but instimt told her that if itlr, Ground'hog's incisors ever closed on her (they wouldn't let go, She fussed about and scratched at a safe distance, Young Master 'and his Pal went on and she finally followed. What a day! They sat down op a bridge over a creek and ate their lunch, Then lbw walked far into the bush, A blue jay screamed a warning to the little folk of the big woodS. A. chipmunk scampered out of sight and scolded from a bough. Cricket smelled the white' and red trilliums' and dog.-tooth vio- lets, She is fond of flowers, but there were many other interesting scents, too. (Then 'Cricket found a teepee made 'of poles and canvas, She ventured inside and Young Mas-ter and his Pal followed. There they found a cooking pan, some staples and an axe. Someone had been cooking flapjacks. Mys- terious to say the least! Deep inf the big bush, it might have been 'a wood cutter's shel- ter. Did little Red Riding Hood's Granny Ave farther along? And just to give a fairy tale touch to the scene, they met a. large wolf like being. 'Cricket dashed up to the large' German Shepherd, Here was a good looking male and she thought to vary the weekend with a flirtation. But he stood grand, ay aloof Ignoring her female wiles! Too bad but there were others who were not cold towards her rornatic overtures. Young Master told him to go about his (business and he obeyed. !Away in 'another direction they found a fallen elm tree. The lads started walking. out on it. Cricket followed and then jump- ed iff. She sank into muck, ugh! Finally she made her way 'to firm ground, but she couldn't shake 'the sticky black mud off. As they walked by a stream, Cricket saw some bugs on top of the water. She wanted to catch them.. "Well, why not kill two birds with one stone?" reasoned Crick- et. So she swam in to catch the moving insects. She (didn't suc- ceed but consoled herself with the thought that she wouldn't ave to go to the basement for a bath when she got home, BARGAINS IN OTHER SIZES $1 1 45 $139!dveth blackwalL blackwall, tubs-type tube-type 6,00x16 size 7.10 x 15 size. for Colder model cars fits most pre-1957 cars FREE INSTALLATION—no extras to buy THIS OFFER 13 GOOD FOR 10 DAYS ONLY I MURPHY BROS.
