Store inn 'Clia4on is' considerably
longer than most stores. Before
the turn of the 'century .tt was 'Op-
erated by R. M. Racey and later
iblye th.e Harland Brothers. When
Wiidliam Harland retired, John
Harland, carried on. • After his
death, Nelson Ball and John At-
kinson, who had the' furniture and
funeral business next door pur-
chased the hardware store and
John Zapfe became the third part-
ner pen the firm of Bail-Atkinson
and Zapfe.
Mr. Atkinson rretired before
World War II and William Ball
joined the firm. After the death
of Mr. Nelson Ball, and the cre-
tirrnent of Mr. J. Zapfe, William
and Douglas, Ball farmed a part-
nership of 'Ball Bros. During. this
..time the stores were remodelled.
In 1948 William Ball left to form.
the lumber f-gm of .Ball-Macaulay
Ltd., now operating'- do Clinton
and Seaforth, and- Bill Mutch,
went in with Doug. Ball to form,
the present firm of Ball and 'Vint-
ch, present partners.

establishment has been included in the Independent Hardware
Association chain, and the new arrangement promises to be par-
ticularly attractive to shoppers, •

ton-and attended school here. Af-
ter .gracluiting from Westervelt
Business College in Landon, ..be
worked with Imperial Oil in Tor-
onto, for a year. From there lie
went to Peru, South America.
where he was with. International
Petroleum Company for seven
years. On his return he was,ern-
played by the Canadian Farm
Loan Board, Toronto, In 1940 he
returned to Option: and -joined the
firm of Ball and Zapfe. - When
Mr. J. Zapfe retired in 1946, Doug
entered into partnership with his
brother Bill ancl,in 1948' with his
present partner, Bill Mutch.
The funeral' home operating in
connection with the business was
begun in 1902, by Nelson Bali,
'tether of Douglas, Doug. himself
took a course in .embalming and
funeral' directing in Toronto in
1942. Mr, Ball is Married teethe
former Doris "Kelly' Ournin.
They have one daughter Barbara.
BIB ,Mutch, who also was
born' in 'Clinton' and attended
school here - has had many years
of experience in .the hardware
!business. He began working with
.Harland Bras., 1-1 is father .Fred
Match and worked in this stare
since 1904 (and until his death in
1944).- Bill was with them until
1928. After .working for a time
in Detroit and Hamilton, he Ale-
turned to .Clinton where he was
employed by 'Canadian Oil Comp-
any. In 1933 Bill and Iris brother
Frank bought the J. P. Shepherd
grocery business which they later
sold 'to W, L Johnson: a Son, in
1942. At !that time Bill joined the
IRCAF and was a member of the
well known RCAF Pipe Band.
After his 'discharge in 1945, he
was with Bail and Zapfe and then
with. Ball Bros. In 1948 Bill be-
came a partner in' the present
firm of Ball and Mitch,
Bill, Mitch is married to the
former Madeline Streets.

toral Di§trict of Huron will be open on Thursday,
Friday .and Saturday, the 8th, 9th and 10th days of
May, 1958, from 8 a,m. until 5 p.m., and from 7
p.m. until 10 p.m. E.S.T. (9 a.m.' until 6 p.m, and
8 p,m. until 11 p,m. •D,S.T.).
The polling places for the said Fiectorol district
will be located' at the Town Hall, Exeter, M. E.
Clarke's Garage, Sea-forth, and Mrs, Geo, Beacom's,
East Street, Goderich, for the purpose of receiving
the votes of voters who expect to be absent from the
electoral district on the day fixed for polling.
The ballot boxes Will be opened and the votes
counted at ..7 p.m. (8 p.m. D.S.T.) of the .12th day
of `May at the said places.
