Thursday evening Clinton Town
Council refuSted the opPertuupity
to learn at first hand "the .a4van
tages of having a civil' defence
committee set up in town and
placed the matter "for investiga-
tion" in the hands of the protec-
tipri tU persons and property -com-
mittee, beaded by Councillor
N. Irwin,
FollOWing the retiring of a two'
man petition to the coUncil, Coun-
cillor Irwin stated to the coun-
cil, "you can rest' assured that
nothing will he done:"
Councillor Herbert Bridle re-
marked, "If they had. approached
us in the right way, something
might have been accomplished."
According to Mayor W. J. Mil-
ler, 'it is expected of petitioners
that they contact council ahead
of time Tor an appointment to
make a • petition, at the council
meeting. This, the petitioners
had not done.
Paul Bennett, employee of the
Royal Bank of Canada, Clinton
Branch and experienced • in mat-
ters of Civil Defence for the past
six 'years, introduced. Brian Hous-
ton, Kitcheneri the regional civil
defence co-ordinator.
Mr, Houston attempted to set
before council the need for a Civ-
il committee, and after
abeut two minutes, was interrup-
ted by Councillor Irwin who said,
"Pardon me, but this could go on
a]] night. Let's get to the facts
of the thing, What do you, want
us to do? Mr. Houston attemp-
ted again to set forth the need
for the work, and might 'have got-
ten into the matter of advantages
when he was interrupted again
by Councillor Irwin, Who conten-
ded: "We know all that. We read
the papers. Get to the point."

The KitChener man then out-
lined the share of the, costs of
„Snell, a group. The town's contri-
bution 'Would be matched dollar
for dollar by the province, and it
would be dOUbleci by the federal
government. He stated that when
disaster strikes, whether by -war,
or natural causes, the services.
which go into action are the town
services. The Work of the Civil
Defence committee is to supple-
ment these services, by training
volunteer individuals in the, var-
ious skills necessary, The idea
was 'that these services would be
interchangeable between towns,.
when need arose in any neigh-,
bouring area.
Forster—
McClinchey
(By our Auburn eorrespondent)
Miss Rena Mae MeClinchey and
John Keith Forster exchanged
marriage vows before Rev. Robert
a-liltz last Saturday afternoon
Knox 'United, Church, Auburn,
The church ,was' decorated with
Easter lilies, ferns, daffodils, and
lighted tapers. The bride is the
eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Sydney McClipehey; and the
bridegroom is the son of William
Forster, Likiknow and the late
Mrs. Forster.
Mrs. Ella Donaldson, Goderich,
played wedding music and accom-
panied the soloist, Mrs. George
Wilkins Auburn, who sang "0
Perfect Love" and "I Love You
Truly."
The bride, given in marriage by
her father, wore a portrait bal-
lerina-length gown, of floral Nal-
pac lace and nylon. The fitted
bodice had a sabrina, neckline
scalloped with lace;, and from the
back of the neck stemmed two
.fllowing streamers decorated with
lace applique. The very full ny-
lon skirt also had lace appliques.
Her shoulder-length veil was
caught to a pill-box crown of net
and sequins, and she carried a
shower bouquet of red roses.
Miss Gladys MaClinchey, God-
erich was maid of honor for her
sister, and the bridesmaids were
Miss Joan Forster, Lucknow, sis-
ter of the bridegroom, and Miss
Ruth Cook, London.
The. flower-girls were Linda
Walden, Westfield, cousin of the
bride and Patricia .Wilkin, Aub-
urn.
The senior attendants wore
partr,length frocks of turquoise

of yellow and white chrysanthe-
mums.
The winsome flowergirls were
attired in ,dresses of the same
material and color with very full
short skirts and off-the-shoulder
necklines, and tiny shoulder cap-
Councillor Bridle asked if it
were not customary to, hold a
public meeting first, at which in-
terest could be aroused.,
Houston replied that the pro-
vincial government would be st-
epping out of line to call such a
meeting. The municipality has
rights over such a thing, and
until approval were given by
council, it was not possible for
the province to take any action
At this pointka motion by Coun-
cillor George Beattie, seconded
by Councillor Irwin was passed
that the request be referred to
the Protection to Persons and
Property committee, of which
Councillor Irwin is convener.
