In a wide-open cleanly played
game in.Clinton Lions Arena on
Tuesday night, the Clinton Colts
hockey team suffered defeat
the hands of the Palmerston team
in the first game of a best-three-
out-of-five WOAA, Grand Champ-
IonShip series, The .lopal team is suffering from
some injuries. Murray Colcfahotm has his left ankle in a cast, fol-
lowing a break received in the
last game with Forest on April 2.
In, Tuesday's game, Ken Doig was inquired and was taken to the doc-
tor for stitches,

Scoring two goals apiece, Alan
Durnin, John Cooper, and Doug
Macaulay totalled up six of the
home team's scores, and the seven-
th was by Gordie Logan.

Borden McRae broke out with
four goals in this ,game to over.!
shadow Ridgetown's Ted. Goldhawk
who had scored eight goals in
three previous games and who had
been picked as one of the stars
of the tourney. Goldhawk scored
two of Ridgetown's goals in this
game.
Single counters in the Ridge-
town game went to Coleuhaun,
cooper and Garry Gilks. Clinton
scored two in the first, one in the
second and four in the third.
CLINTON 8—WATFORD 2-
(Wednesday, Antil. 9 — 4.00 p.m.)
The Clinton kids won their sec-
ond game of the day from Watford
with six players sharing in the
scoring. Carry Gilks got Clinton's
fifth "hat trick" of the tourney.
Clinton scored twice in, the first
period, one to Gilks and one to
Laurie Colquhoun. No scoring in
the second period. In the third,
Gilks scored twice and single
tallies went to McRae, Cooper,
Durnin and Macaulay. Gilks also
was credited with three assists in
the third period.
ELMIRA 6—CLINTON 4
Exceptional goal-tending by the
Elmira goalie proved the down-
fall of the Clinton Kinsmen pee-
wees. Clinton was reported to
have had three times as many
shots on goal as Elmira.
Each team scored three times
in the first period. Clinton scor-
ers were, Durnin, Cooper and Am-
old George (from Durnin). El-
mira goals went to Woodall, Farr
and Esch. There was no scoring
in the second.
In the third, John Cooper got
Clinton's only goal. Farr scored
.4-4,-e-neese-44-e-ee-e-e-e-e-fseene-ne-ee, two and Woodall one in the third.
This is the best showing that
Clinton team has ever made in
Young Canada Week tournaments
(advertised as the biggest little
hockey tournament in the world,)
Over 1,000 persons were at God-
erich Memorial Arena last night
to see the "C" series finals, Many
of these were from Clinton. This
was the third game for the Clinton
.acids in the one day. Beginning at
8;30 in to morning they defeated
Ridgetown 7-3, and between four
and five in the afternoon beet
Watford to qualify for the
final game at 7.45..
Starting on their win streak last
Fr/4y evening when they defeat-
ed Glencoe 84, the Clinton team

tender. .Twenty--nine teams corn-
peted in the "C" Series. The
champion Elmira team was also
last year's cup winners,
The Clinton kids were awarded
the Stratford Beacon-Herald tro-
phy as runners-up in the "C"
wries, while the Elmira team keep
the Elston Cardiff trophy for an-
other year, Mr. Cardiff, himself,

The Clinton team is picked from
a fouz-tedm peewee league, epee-
sored and run by the Kieentere
Club, of Clinton, Club members

been quite active with the peewee
hockey setup this year.

The Clinton team scored 45
goals In the six tournament games.
Only 1,5 shots got by goalkeeper
Bayne Boyer, Chilton played five
games in reaching the finals while
Elmira only played four.

Alan Durnin each scored two •of
the Clinton goals, Laurie Coign-
hour and Randy Glow each placed
one. This win indicated to on-
lookers, even as early as the first
game played by Clinton that they
were a definite threat for the
series title. Five goals were scor-
ed in the final period,

The Peewees ran up their biggest
score of the series lin the Forest
game, counting three in the first,
five in the second, and three more
in the third.

Ashley Gilbert and Anderson
shared the high overall on total
of 50 targets with 47.50 while
Moss collected 45-50 and Wilf Har-
tman, Kitchener; H. Lamaroux,
Kitchener; John Gilbert and Redly
Prouso, Goderich, tied for third
place with 43-5p.
