Fieldman Explains
Actions 10 Beef
Cattle Producers
• (Ay ',Y. Carl Hentintmay)
Huron County Beef Producers
turned out in good numbers to
the annual meeting. April 2 in
spite of seeding coming in rather suddenly.
Robert McGregor, re-elected pre-sident, has an invitation for a
bus load or two of interested' far-
mers to attend the Ohio Fat-stook
show and sale this fall. If enough
of you. are interested let us know
and we will start making. plans.
The meeting endorsed the pro-
posed "Promotional Program" be-
ing introduced at the annual meet-
ing of the Ontario Beef Producers
Association on April 22, in Toron-
to. About 95 percent were in fay-
'lour of the deduction of ten, cents
on cattle and 5 cents on oalves
to finance Ontario and County
work of the organization,.
Auction, selling. on the Toronto
stockyards was favoured but due to the excessive numbers of cattle going to market on Monday and
Tuesday the volume is a real dif-
ficulty.
If auction selling is decided on
it will begin on Wednesday when
a manageable number arrive on
the market. In this way the auct-
ion may attract shipments away
frorn Monday and Tuesday.
In a survey of 26 weeks on large
U.S. stockyards it showed that for
14 weeks the price was higher on
Thursday and Friday — for ten
weeks it was strong--tfor two we-
erks it was lower than. on Monday.
Fred Campbell, manager of the
Ontario Stockyards felt that the
commission firm would be in a
much stronger selling position and
ekpenses could be reduced con-
siderably if some way could be
devised to have a steady flow of
cattle all week,
At a pipelines and land acquis-
ition meeting in Toronto we were
informed. that many of the im-
provements requested by the Fed-
eration of Agriculture have 'been
written into the new Act passed
at.the last session and will be Jaw shortly.
In view .of this the Pipelines
'Committee of the Ontario Feder-
ation have drafted a more equit-
able form of easement contract.
This is being given to the Ontario
Fuel Board for approval and it
is hoped that this form will be
in force by July 1,
• In the mean time .don't sign
any option or easement until you
axe sure that you are getting a
fair price and that the Company
is liable for any and all damages.
