The Woman's Association of
Ontario Street United Church met
Tuesday afternoon in the church
parlour. Mrs. J. B. Levis, pres-
ident, was in the chair,
DevotiOns were taken by Mrs.
Grant Mills on the theme "I am
come, that ye might have life".
Mrs. B. Olde gave the secret-
ary's report, and also read the
correspondence, in the, absence of
Mrs. C. Elliott. Mrs. C. proctor
gave the treasurer's report. The
visiting committee rePorted 38
calls made last month.
Four ladies were appointed to
help collect funds for the Cancer
Society. Mrs. N. Heard, Holmes-
ville, contributed two whistling so-
los, accompianied by Mrs. E, Rad-
ford at the piano,
Mrs. R. Fairservice, Londesboro,
gave a reading on "Friendship"
and read and recited several po-
ems telling how to make good
friends and keep them. Nancy
Schoenhals played two accordion
solos. After a hymn and prayer by

The Clinton Women's Institute
meeting on March 27 saw 38 pres-
ent and Mrs. Mervin Batkin pre-
siding. Roll call was answered
by giving a housecleaning hint.
Mrs. Sturdy, mat convener, gave
a report on Achievement Day held
in Wingham Collegiate.
The group decided to enter a
grandmothers quilt • competition
and also to hold a short course
in lampshade making. The local
leaders training school has dec-
ided on a nursing course.
Mrs. Doucette took the chair
for the election of officers, which
returned Mrs. Mervin Batkin to
the president's chair, Vice-presid-
ents are Mrs. Wilfred Colclough,
Mrs. R. F. Holmes, and Mrs. For-
est. Secretary is Mrs. Charles
Elliott and treasurer is Mrs. Clar-
ence Sturdy. Press secretary is
Mrs. Howard Snell.

Mrs. Shohbrook, Mrs. Epps, Mrs.

Sherry and Alan Cochrane fav-
oured the ladies with a lively
instrumental number and Mrs.
Forest gave a 'timely, reading.
The group deciderupon a turk-
ey banquet to be held in the Pres-
byterian Church on the next meet-
ing day, April 24.
About 80 attended the Girl
Guide and Brownie mother and
daughter banquet in the basement
of St. Andrew's United Church, on
Thursday, March 27. It was giv-
en by the Local Association to
Guides and 'Brownies, to mark the
fifth anniversary of Guiding in
Bayfield, commenced by Mrs. E.
Carew-Jones.
Those from a distance Who at-
tended were: the Area Commis-
sioner, Mrs. Bruce Connell, Galt;
Division Commissioner, Miss Lor-
etta. Seigner, Exeter; District
Commissioner, Miss Una McDon-
ald and Lieut. of the 1st Guide
Company, Goderich, Miss Mary
MacMilien.
The tables were done in Guide
and. Brownie colors, with lighted
tapers and a beautiful birthday
cake, baked and iced with Guide
and Brownie' motifs, by Mrs, Rob-
ert Turner, bore five candles.

Stuart Taylor has returned to
Clinton, where he will be employed
as. section foreman with the Can-
adian National Railways, working
out of Clinton. Mr. Taylor has
been working out of London. He
succeeds J. Vincent, who retired
on Monday.

ess/Street, were pleasantly surpris-
ed an Saturday eyeing when
family and friends helped them
celebrate their 35th wedding an-
niversary which is on March 31.

A rapacity congregation turned
out to hear the choir of Ontario
Street United Church sing the
Easter cantata, "Calvary" bi Hen-
ry'Wessel, on Palm Sunday morn-
ing. From the first chorus, de-
picting the sad story of the Cruc-
ifixion of Jesus, to the last "Amen"
of the rousing victory chorus, the
choir gave evidence of fine pre-
cision and good quality.
Much praise was voiced for the
hard working leader, Miss Elva
Wiltse, and the organist Miss Lois
Grasby. Thirty-two members of
the choir had' joined in many
weeks of hard work to make the
cantata a success,
Those taking solo parts were:
Mrs. Jack McKnight, Mrs. Donald
Kay, and Mrs. W., Vantegmencl,
(soprano); Mrs. Florence Syrrions,
(alto); Doti Symons (tenor); Byng
ainnirighare and Johe Levis,
(base),
Duet parts were taken by Mrs.
W. VanEgmond and Donald Sym-
ons': and Miss Elva. Wiltse and
Rev', Oh Mills.
A three part chorus Was taken
by Mrs, Donald Kay, Mrs. E. M.
,Colqubotin, Mils, Gray, Miss
Olive Johnston (soprano); Mrs. R.
Me might and Lynda ,,Tervig.
(alto); Viwin Merit and Donald
Mills (tenor),
Plans have boon made to repeat
the cantata on Easter Sunday eve-
ning at 7 part.
Guides and Brownies Stage Fine

cake,
The program consisted of a word
of welcome given by Guide Marg-
aret Wallis; the Girl Guide prom-
ise led by the leader of the First
Bayfield Company, Mrs. Grant
Turner (Captain); Brownie prom
Ise led by Mrs. J. B. Higgins
(Brown Owl); tribute to the
Queen by Guide Margaret Smith
which was responded to by the
singing of the national anthem;
tribute to mothers and Local As-
sociation, Guide Janet Rader, the
response being given by Mrs. Fred
Wallis; tribute to the Guide move-
ment, Guide Jackie Weston, to
which Miss L. Siegner made the
response. She spoke on Guiding
and what it does for one and also
annoi,mced that the Field Day is
to be held in Bayfield on May 31.
Guide Elaine Weston introduced
the Area Commissioner, who
brought greetings from this area.
Mrs. Connell told humorous inci-
dents experienced in camping.
Miss Frances .Armstrong, Goder-
ich, showed pictures of our Caba-
na in Guiding in Mexico and other
views of that country; Mrs, J.
Lindsay, president of the Local
Association moved a vote of
thanks to the Commissioners and
to Miss Armstrong for her inter-
esting pictures. Mrs. Grant Tur-
ner also said a few words expres-
sing thanks to the Local Associa-
tion and mothers for their Work
and co-operation, 'raps brought
the evening to a close,
