Form Union President In Essex County
Huron County's Gordon Hill signs another member for the
Ontario Farmers' Union. Mr. Hill, the organization's Ontario
President,, is touring the Province in the drive to unite farmers
under one group. Throughout last week he visited nearly a...dozen
centres in Kent County to set up locals. At Wheatley, Ontario

Canadian Canners Plant At Exeter
Will Not Operate This Year
The Canadian Canners Limited
plant, Exeter, which supplied: em-
ployment for about 250 workers
from June to December, will not
operate this year, Exeter council
was informed Monday night by
Mayor R, E. Pooley.
C, A. Smith. Hamilton, super-
visor of property •for Canadian
Canners, gave as reason for the
shutdown a backlog in stock, the
mayor' said.
He stated, Mr, Smith• told him
today the decision to close the
plant would be reviewed for next
year's crop. A skeleton staff of
15 maintenance men will be kept
at the factory,

means loss of 2,000 acres of cash
crop—peas; beans, corn and cabb-
age--grown annually for Canad-
ian Canners. on a contract basis.
Mr. Smith said none of the
acreage would be contracted for
this year,

yards of gravely crushed through 3/4 -inch screen. 15,000
en. yds. of this gravel is to be taken from McLean's pit;
1,500 en, yds, from Holmesville pit and 3,000 en. yds. from
Reiner pit at Bayfield.
Gravel 'to be pia on township roads to the satisfaction
of .the Township Road Superintendent, not later than Oc-
tober 15, 1958.
Tenders to be accompanied by a certified cheque to
the amount of 5% of tender price. Tenders are to be in
the bands of the township clerk not later than April 5th;
1958, at 12 o'clock noon. Lowest or any tender not neces-
sarily accepted.

Crokinole
The crokinole party put on by
the Goshen Woman's Association,
in 'Mime. on Friday night was a
huge success. Twenty tables of
eroltinole were in play.
Prizs winners were: high, Rob-
ert McKinley, Mrs, Cecil Dowson,
low, Anson McKinley, . Muriel
Hera; children under 12, high,
Margaret Aldington; low, John
Broeze.
A short program followed which
included: .a double duet, "Whisp-
ering Hope" by Dianne and Donna
Peck and Gwen and Gail McBride;
a poem by Gerald Hayter; tap
dancing by Karen and Diane Mc-
Kinley; a reading by Patricia and
Carolyn Robinson, a piano duet
by Mrs', Melvin Elliott and Joan
Elliott and a novelty number
which included 'the songs "Mac-
Narnara's Band", "Sail Along Soy-
cry Moon" and' •a German polka.
Rev. T. 3. Pitt was chairman for
the program. Lunch was served
by the Goshen North ladies.

Mission Band was on Sunday-
morning with Mrs.. .Clare McBride.

charge. There were 31 children
present. A Japanese melody was
sung, Donna peck gave the treas.-
urer's report. One member had

It was decided to sell garden
seeds again this year and have
them at the bazaar. The story
from Kings, "Adventure with
Shoes" was read. Marlene Keys

ich Pipe land, which: will be re-
named the Goderich. Legionaires
