Trinity Club
Mrs. J. E. Howard WAS the
Vest VaakOr at the, Trinity Club
meeting on Tuesday evening at
the borne of Mrs. Maynard Carrie.
Mrs, William F. Parker introduc-
ed Mrs. Howard, who, chose her
subject, "The Wonders of Nat-
ure". She presented simple and
amazing facts from her own ex-
perience, "This'. Aladdin's Cave
with its sheer magic. of sky, stars,
dawn and sunset is all ours to
enjoy," said the speaker. At this
point she digressed to give a list
of reference beaks to be found in
the Bayfield library.
Dealing especially with birds
and insects Mrs. Howard likened
them to people—some are friendly
or shy; greedy or generous; kind
or unkind. She told of the hab-
its of the cardinal at her feeding
station, The male will not allow
the female to eat until he is sat-
isfied. She sits on the sidelines;
and watches her mate picking' out
'tile best, but just before nesting
time, he becomes most gallant
and devoted, He'll shell the sun
flouters or other seeds and feed
his less •colourful 'lady. .•It had
'been 30 years before she had
sighted a cuckoo. In that time
she had -heard them frequently.
' Then Mrs. Howard spoke of
migration, showing a chart. She
keeps a• diary of bird movements,
and as' an example she pointed
out that last year the red should-
ered hawk left two days later
than in 3$5,5, In speaking of in-
Sects, her hearers .learned that
the cicada goes through 17 years
of nymph stage train tile egg to
the larva. MrS., Howard is a
pleasing speaker, who took her
listeners into the magic of the
World around theim which so many overlook,
Following her speech there was
a discussion period and Mrs. How-
and answered many questions, clop
ing whioh she explained that the
call' of the cuckoo of this district
is different from the European
species.
Mrs. Alf, Seotehmer expressed
thanks to Mrs. Howard for her in-
teresting and educational address.
Mrs. J. Chef, viceliresident, chair-
ed the meeting. There were 14
present, The devotional period
was in charge of Mrs. 3, E. Hqv-
ey. it commenced, with the mem,' bers pledge and readings, • "God
who' tbucheth earth with, beauty",
Mrs, Ross Middleton read the
Seripture and Miss. Bert-herrn Stur-
geon offered prayer. Plans for
catering to the 4D01 At Home
were completed..
After closing with the .Mezpah
benediction the hostess was as-
sisted in serving, lunch by Mrs.
Carswell and Mrs, Alf. Seotchmer.
The next meeting will be held at
the home of Mrs. Alf. Seetchmer
When Mrs, Reg. Ball will be the
