Pryde Memorial Plans for the construction of a hospital for mentally retarded children in Huron County were confirmed Mondays in the speech from the throne.. at the opening of the 1958 legislature. One of two to be built in Western Ont- ario, the hospital will be located on the shores of Lake Huron. Thomas Pryde, successfully con- vinced the government that Hur- on without a single provincial government institution with the exception of a .jail needed a government institution to bolster :the economy of the area. Rumor is that the multi-million- dollar institution will be named the Tom Pryde Memorial Hospit- al. The government has optioned land in Huron three miles south of Goderich on Highway 21. These are farms owned now by Norman Fuller, Otto Fangrad and Charles Mather's, 260 acres in all. Sources at Queen's Park say the Department of Public Works intends to move with speed in the awarding of contracts for the hospital and actual construction work should begin in the spring. Originally it had been planned to build a 1,000 bed hospital for mentally retarded children in K- ent but the government under the extreme pressure from certain members altered plans to provide for the two- hospitals rather than erecting one large institution in the Kent area. The Huron Hospital will com- prise 500-patients beds. • 0 BAYFIELD BAPTIST CHURCH HOLDS ANNUAL MEETING Members and adherents of Bay- if eld Baptist Church met on Jan- uary 29, for their annual meeting.
