were the guests of Mr. and Mrs.
E, A. Westlake on Monday, in
celebration of E. A. Westlake's
73rd birthday.
Mr. and Mrs.' Robert Parker
and 'Pamela, Landoll, were with
his! parents; Mr. and Mrs. William
E. Parker for the weekend. • Mrs.
R., Parker's parents, Mr. and Mrs.
B., J. Reid, Lucknow, were also
their guests on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Heard re-
turned to London on Tuesday ev-
ening, after having speht • the
weekend at their trailer home.
Mrs. Heard who is on the London
Public School Teaching Staff was
indisposed for a few days.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Arkell,
Kenny and Jo Anne, Bay City,
spent Thursday night with the
former's, parents, Mr[ and
F. P. Ai-ken, before -going on to
Toronto. They returned on Sat-
urday and visited again, leaving
for their home on Sunday,
Master Ricky Westlake was
taken to Clinton Public. Hospital
on Monday With a very high 'fev-
er. Corporal and Mass Lloyd
Westlake, Ricky and Catherine,
Kitchener, were spending
weekend with her parents; Mr.
and Mrs. Malcolm Toms, Owing
to the little illness, they did
not return.
Card Party
There was not as large an .at-
tendance as usual at the card
party in Trinity Parish Halla.on
Friday evening, It was sponsor-
ed by the Guild. Winners at
cards were: euchre, Mrs. J. H,
Parker ana B. A. Featherston
(high); Miss Ellen MacKay and
Lloyd Scotchmer (low); J. M.
Stewart held the highest score for
bridge.
Baptist Young Folk
An unusual program was car-
ried out by the Bayfield Baptist
Young People in the form of a
.progressive supper on Friday
evening, 45 young people were
taken to several homes for the
various courses of the meal. Each
member was required to bring a
friend as his meal ticket. The
evening was culminated by a
stirring gospel message by Joseph
Baker, director of Tel-County
Youth for Christ. Vocal and in-
starmental talent from Wlagham,
Walkerton and Clinton added to
the inspiration of the evening.
Couple lionaured
Donald Campbell, Donald War-
ner and Kenneth Pollock arranged
a dance in the Town Hall, on
Friday evening last in honor of
Mr. and, Mrs. Thomas Penhale.
Desjardine's orchestra played for
the dancing. •
During the evening Donald
Warner read an address and Ken-
neth Pollock presented the newly-
weds with a purse.
On behalf of himself and his
bride; ThomaS Penhale expressed

thanks and appreciation to the
large number assembled on this
occasion, The ladies served jamb.

The Chancel Guild of Trinity
Church met at the home of the
president,. Mrs. 3. Cluff, on Tues-
day eveniag. There was a dis-
cussion regarding supplies for the
local church, and the question of
being affiliated with the Diocesan
Chancel Guild, Before the closing
prayer; the rector installed each
member individually with a very
solemn prayer.
Library Board
The annual meeting of the Bay-
field Library Association was
held in the library on Monday af-
ternoon, with the president,- Mrs.
C, Bailey in the chair. The
report regardina the books was as
follows: adult section, 705; non-
fiction, 1009; juvenile, 424; total,
2,143,
During the year there were 94
'borrowers, adults, 67; juveniles,
32. Circulation of books, adults,
1,167; nen-fiction; 234;. juvenile,
331.
Treasurer's' report showed the
finances to be in good condition,
with all bills paid.
The election of officers resulted
as follows: honorary president,
Mrs. T. C. Bailey; president, Mrs.
C. Knuckey; treasurer, Mrs. J.
McKenzie; secretary, Mrs. R.
Scotchmer. The board consists
of • Mrs. Bailey, Mrs. Knuckey,
.McKenzie, Mrs. Scotchmer,
Mrs. J. E. Howard, Mrs. J. H.
Cobb, Mrs. F. A. Featherston,
Mrs. 13.. S. Roddick and Mrs. H.
H. Ormond.
The board feels that there is a
good selection of books on the
shelves and would welcome more
readers now at the beginning of
the year.
Cemetery Board
The annual meting of the Cem-
etery Board was held on January
24, at the home of .Mr. and Mrs.
E. A. Westlake. John M. Stew-
art, chaired the meeting. Mr.
Westlake was secretary. . The
treasurer's statement by Mr.
Westlake showed the affairs to be
in good order at present. Some
discussion as to the handling of
finances followed. The officers
and directors were all re-elected
as follows: John M. Stewart, pres-
ident; E. A. Westlake, secretary-
treasurer; Donald McKenzie, vice-
president; Elgin Porter, Wilmer
Reid,.Leslie Elliott; Lloyd Scotch-
mer, •Alfred Hudie, Russell Heard;
sexton; Ben Rathwell; auditors,
J. H. Parker, L. Elliott.
Two years' ago the board passed
a by-law to the effect that no
graves would be opened in a plot
which was' not on perpetual up-
keep. At this meeting a motion
was passed to add one dollar for
four grave plate, and $1.50 per
year for eight grave plots. The
secretary was instructed to col-
lect these back dues of plots not
on perpetual care.
A vote of thanks was tendered
to Mr. and Mrs. Westlake for
their hospitality, ' •

TheWcanen's Auxiliary of Trin-
ity Church met on Thursday last
at the home of Miss Lucy Woods.
It was opened by the singing of
"As With Gladness. Men of Old:"
The Reverend E. J. B, Harris-
on then read out the list of of-
ficers for 1958 and officiated at
the solemn installation service.
Mrs. E. A. Featherston was at
the piano.
Miss Lucy R. Woods presided.
Mrs. Emerson Heard read Acts,
chapter 10.
Mrs. W. J. McLeod read the
minutes of the last meeting, and

ing 'of St. Andrew'a United Chur-
ch was held in the Sunday School
room of the clattreh last Thursday,.

al service the- minutes of last an-
nual meeting wore reed, also a
number of recommendations ,from
the Session. These were voted
upon'by the meeting and carried;

Abe sent to Rev, and Mrs. Peter
Renner; to Mrs. Kingsbury, for-
mer organist; to Miss Steepe and
to the .choir and to Miss Clara
Clark, Bible Class Teacher and
S.S. superintendent; also a rec-
ommendation that Miss Steepe be
retained as organist and Miss
Clarke as superintendent, with
Gordon Porter as Sunday School
secretary.- treasurer; that John

py returns of the day" go to Al-
fred Scetchmeer, Sr., who on Fri-
day, January 24, passed his 82nd
birthday.
BY way of a celebration 20
members of his family, cbildren
and grandchildren surprised him
and Mrs. Scotchmer at their
home on Clan Gregor. Square in
the evening. - ,
After enjoying a game of euchre
he was presented with a gift
from the family.
Mr. Scotchmer' received other
gifts, cards and 'best wishes from
callers during the day.
Lai-10h was served before a very
happy day came to a close.

A pancake supper 'was arran-
ged to be held' in the Parish Hall,
on Shrove. Tuesday. Mrs. P. West-
on was appointed general conven-
er, assisted by Mrs. E. Heard.
In the closing prayer, the Rev-
erend -E. J. B. Harrison remem-
bered Mrs. George King and Miss
L. C. Morley.

Scout Auxiliary
The regular meeting of the Lad-
ies Auxiliary to, the Scouts and
Cubs'- was held at the home' of
Mrs. Merton Merner, on. Wednes-
day, January 28, with 11 mem-
bers present. The president, Mrs.
James A. Cameron, was In the
chair. The meeting opened by
repeating the Scout Mothers' pro-
mise. Mrs. Cameron thanked the
past president and all retiring of-
ficers for their work in 1957 and
asked for co-operation in activ-
ities, for this year.
The secretary's report and fin-
ancial statement was given by
Mrs. Roy Fitzsimons. The treas-
urer's report by Mrs. Wilfred Cas-
tle, The club so far this month
has raised money by sponsoring
pictures shown by Mr. and Mrs,.
Leroy Poth and selling sandwich-
es at a dance in the town hall.
Representatives to the group
committee by Mrs. James A.
Cameron and Mrs. Reg. Francis.
Two silver cups were presented
by the Auxiliary to be held, one
for the Scouts , and one for the
Cuba,
The next meeting is Tuesday,
March 18, at the home of Mrs.
Lloyd Scotchmer. All interested
persona are invited to attend. Af-
ter the Scout Mothers benediction
the hostess served a delicious
lunch.

Stirling to the parsonage' board in
place of Mrs. Jack Scotchmer
who resigned. Twelve members
Were elected. 'to the Board of
Stewards; under a new system, by
which four resign at the end of
one year; four at the end of twd
yeare and four at the end of three
years, these to be eligible for re-
election' after one year's retire-
ment. The Board will consist of
the following: C. H. Scotchmer,
William Heard,, Grant Turner,
Fraser Stirling, Len Talbot,,John
Watson, Lloyd Makins, John
Campbell, Raymond Scotchmers
LeRoy Path, Donald Campbell,
Jack Scotchmer.
,During the year new choir
gowns had, been purchased and
paid for, through the co-operation
of yellow groups in the congre-
gation; also the furnace at the
parsonage had" been converted to'
oil, this winter. A fund is, already
under way for the purchase of a
new furnace for the church.
Plans were discussed for mem-
bership in the Presbytery Men's.
Club; also the Presbytery TV
program was discussed and the
Conference plan for building a re-
sidence in London, for the use of
United Church students attending
the University of Weetern Ontar-
io; all these being projects claim-
ing the, attention and financial
help of the congregation.
The minister also spoke of the
"Mission to the Nation" which
will be carried on again this year
in slightly different form.
The finances of all organiza-
tions were in satisfactory condi-
tion and the church treasurer re-
ported a balance on hand to be-
gin the New Year. •

Gather at Home
Of Mrs. McCowan
The Stanley Ladies' Club held
their January meeting at the
home of Mrs, Frank McCowan
with 15 members, one visitor and
four children present.. The vice-
president ,Mrs.. Mel Graham, oc-
cupied the chair and the meeting
opening with .the Lord'a Prayer.
Collection amounted to $5:65. Roll
call was "What Gives Me Pep."
The members ,decided to send $5
to the and $5 to the Sal-
vatioh Army. A party was plan-
ned for sometime in February.-
The next meeting will be at the
home' of Mrs. John McGregor and
roll call will be "What You Could
