The way Grandma celebrated
Christmas, the gobd old fashioned
way, still holds plenty of appeal
for her modern grandchildren. And
part of the charm of her way of
remembering loved ones lay in her
own 'gift making." She knew
that a gift became more precious
when some of the time and talents
of the giver had gone together to
create it, We're. sure Grandam
wouldn't mind a bit if we copied
some of her ideas, especially for
one Christmas gift that pleased
everybody on her list ... from the
youngsters right up to Grandpa
himself. For you see, each year
round about now, Grandma'cl be'
right in the midst of plans for bak-
ing butter cookies. 'Cookies not
only to have on hand throughout
the holiday season, but cookies
,that would be tucked into gay
Yuletide (boxes, and parceled up to
carry joy and gladness to lots of
lucky friends and neighbors,
Yes, butter cookies took top hon-
ors in the realm of Christmas gifts
in Grandma's day and they're ev-
ery bit as welcome today, if not
more so. Christmas butter cookies
are rich and delicate, and good to
the proverbial last crumb. That's
because butter has no equal in
cooking and baking . . . for flavor
and enriching qualities. And mat-
chless is the way to describe that
flavor goodness.. . imparted by
butter, the golden yellow dairy
food.'
Try any of these butter cookie
recipes in our brand new collect-
ion, In fact, why not try all of
them, so you can mix 'em and
match 'em in the gift boxes, and
so you'll be treating your friends
to more of the goodness that's in
every mouthful of butter cookies.
Best of all, your box of homemade
goodies will speak for themsel-
ves. not only flavorwise . .
but they'll carry warmth, from
"your house to theirs:" For when
the lid is opened, their wonderful
sweet 'n spicy aroma will sing out
with your best wishes. And the
lucky opener will know you
thought just a wee bit more about
thoPl, for some of your love and
labor went into gifts from your
own kitchen.
