Challenged By
Douglas H. Miles
Hullett Township farmers were
told last Wednesday night that
marketing is the major problem
facing agriculture.
"You are doing a pretty fair
job---ibut I doubt if it is good
enough," said • Douglas H. Miles,
agricultural representative -.for
Huron' County. "In the.near fut-
une you are going to be called upon
to say how you are going to
market your farm, produCts. Farm
people are individualists — they
like to gamble. I am concerned
with the great number of farm-
ers who are taking the gamble
oat, of agriculture,"
Mr. Miles was speaking at the
annual meeting of Hullett Town-
ship Federation of Agriculture.
CriticisYn
Referring to criticism at the
Ontario Federation of Agriculture
meeting in Toronto that the or-
ganization's president, Lloyd Jas-
per, Mildmay, was "talking from
the , top down," Mr. Miles said
"someone has to do the leading.
Most of our people are not talking
sufficiently in the right places."
Lloyd Medd, Clinton, was elected
president, succeeding Lloyd Pipe,
Londesboro. Harry Lear, Blyth,
vice-president; Percy J. Gibbings,
Clinton, secretary-treasurer. One
director will be appointed in Dec-
ember from each of the Township's
15 school sections.
Over 125 people attended the
event at which-a talk on radio
and television was given by W. T.
Cruickshanks, owner,and general
manager of CKNX rdio and tele-
vision, Wingharn.
Mr. Pipe briefly reviewed• the
activities of the township federa-
tion over the past year. As well
as giving firm. leadership and sup-
port to the young farmers, sup-
port was given to the Cancer So-
ciety in its drive for funds, the
Huron County Seed Fair and the
Hullett township music festival.
