The Woman's Missibnary Soc-
iety of the United Church met last
Thursday with Mrs. A. Clark's
group in charge and Mrs. Clark
presiding.
The devotional and study book
on Japan was given by Miss M.
Ellis, Mrs, W. Henry, Mrs. A. Ferg,
Mrs. F. Hanburn.
President Mrs. G. Armstrong
presided for the business and an-
nounced that Mrs. Whiting, Hazel-
ton, B.C., who is connected with
the Mission Hospital in. that city
will be guest speaker at the meet-
ing on December 5, at 3 p.m. Mrs.
M. MoMurtrie, Mrs. L. Mickle,
Mrs. M. Traquair were appointed
a nominating committee to bring
in the 1958 slate.
Mrs. Henry and Mrs. 1VIcMurt-
rie gave excellent highlights of
the sectional meeting held in Hen-
sel' in October. A bale- for over-
seas relief was packed and lun-
cheon served.

mit them to pass through the
Township from their wells in Stan-
ley Township to ROAX Station

Council authorized the Reeve
and clerk to proceed with a By-law
No, 116; passed in 1853-4 by-law
selling a portion of a road allow-
ance in Lots 1 and 2, Bayfield
Concession. This By-law appar-
ently was never registered.
The tender of C, R, Holland for,
Snow-ploughing -at rate of $5.75 per
hour, being the only tender re-
ceived, was. accepted. This rate
to apply, Of $100 per month stan-,
ding time, if necessary.
A. bill from the County of Hur-
on, for $456.51 was accepted. This
covered the' expense of eradicating
Barberry, buckthorn and leafy
spurge, and the Clerk was Institic-
ted to bill the individuals concern-
ed for their share of the item;, that
is, one quarter of the exxpense.
Accounts passed included $200
for fire calls; -$15 for selecting
jurors; $6 for fox bounty; $96 for
relief.
The next meeting of council will
be on November 15, at 8 p.m. •

Tuckersmith. Municipal Council
met in the Town Hall, Seaforth, on
November 5, at 1 p.m. All mem-
bers were present and the Reeve
presided.
Council gave final reading and
passed, signed and sealed By-law
No. 13, 1957, authorising a franch-
ise agreement between the corpor-
ation and Bluewater Oil and Gas
Limited for the purpose of supply-
ing gas to the Department of Nat-
ional Defence at Clinton.
No appeals against Assessment
entered on the Assessment Roll
prepared in 1957 and the Roll was
adopted.
Rate of taxation for municipal
purposes for 1957 is Business and
Commercial, n mills; Residential
and Farm Property, 8.7 mills.
Council decided to take immed-
iate procedure to have a Building
By-law and Sub-division Control
By-law rpassecl,
Grant of $50 was authorised to
the Seaforth Lions Club. An ad-
vance of 44,000 was made to the
Tuckersmith Municipal Telephone
System, repayable oh December
15. Council also 'authorised Water
Installation to James Hulley in
Egmondville.
The clerk was instructed to in-
vestigate a rebate of 'sales tax on
equipment in the Ptimp House in
Egmondville Water System,

Kippen East Women's Institute
observed family night entertain-
ing their husbands and families to
a turkey banquet in the' Legion
Hall, November 8, with over
qoo present, Winners at euchre
were, ladies, Mrs. Charles Eyre;
gentlemen, Bill Kyle; travelling
lone hands, Ernie Whitehouse. The
children enjoyed bingo. In charge
of the entertainment were Mrs.
William Caldwell, Mrs. Ross
Broadfoot, Mrs. John Sinclair,
A high tension hydro wire was
blown to the ground by heavy
winds Saturday morning at 4 a.m.
and caught fire along the ground.
The flames illuminated the sky and
were seen by many of the villagers.
Bill Fink was awakened by the
first flash of fire which lighted
their bedroom. They turned in
the alarm and the power was cut
off. Hensall fire brigade came to
the scene in front of Fink's apart-
ment block on Nelson street.
First Again • William Hyde; 94, captured first
prize in his class of five for Old
Time Fiddling, and first for oldest
man at the Old Time Fiddlers
Contest 'held at the Fair Grounds,
Woodstock, November 8. This
makes a total of 62 first prizes
Mr. Hyde has won at various con-
tests he has appeared in Western
Ontario, in addition to many sec-
ond, third and fourth prizes. 31st Anniversary
Mr, and Mrs. Henry Pfile cele-
brated their 31st wedding anniv-
ersary on November 6. They were
dinner guests at the Queensway,
where later in the evening mem-
bers of the prayer meeting group
and friends met to extend felici-
tations on this happy occasion.
After a brief worship service, Rev.
Donald MacDonald gave expres-
sion to sentiments appropriate to
the occasion. Refreshments were
served by ladies of the group.
WI Bazaar
Hensall Women's Institute spon-
sored 'a very successful bazaar,
bake sale,,, and tea in the Legion
Hall, on Saturday, November 9,
and cleared $82, In charge of the
fancy work were Mrs. T. Sherritt,
Mrs. R. Elgie; white elephant,
Mrs. W. R. Stephenson, Mrs.,Alda
Simmons Mrs, C. Cook; baking,
Mrs.. R. M. Peck Mrs. E. Rowe,
Mrs. J. Horton, Mrs, William. Hen-
ry; tea cup reading, Mrs. Gordon
Schwalm, Mrs. T. C. Coates.

day, November 9, Mrs, JOhn Baker
was hostess for twenty relatives
and friends for a miscellaneous
presentation in her honor. Varied
coloured balloons, streamers, and
autumn flowers formed attractive
house decorations. Gladys was the
recipient of many lovely gifts.
