Shower Held Prior -to the wedding, on Satur- day of Joyce. Webster and Kenneth Scotchmer, a miscellaneous shower • was held on October 4 by friends - of the bride-elect,.• in the Stanley Township Hall, Varna. Contests and a short program were followed by the highlight of the evening when Miss Webster was escorted to a chair decorated with pink and white streamers. The address was • read, by the cousin of the bride, Margery Webster, and many beautiful gifts were presented. The bride-elect' thanked her friends and invited them to visit her .in her new home. A dainty lunch Was served by the ladies. Trousseau Tea On Monday, -October 14, Mrs. Melvin Webster held a trousseau tea in honour of her daughter. In the afternoon, aunts of the bride and groom poured tea, Mrs. L. Makins, Miss R. Johnston and Mrs. R; Webster, and grandmother of the bride, Mrs. H. Dowson, In the evening, tea was poured by Mrs. R. Greer, Mrs. P. Johnston and Mrs. W. Cameron. In the afternoon her trousseau was displayed by Lois Webster, Patsy Dawson, Mrs. ' E. Tipping and Marjorie Dawson; in the even- ing by Mrs. G. Clifton, Margery Webster, Lois White and Mrs. D. Campbell. Lunch was served in the afternoon by Edith Dowson and Mrs. L. The minister, Dr. George Wylie, Wallaceburg, gave' a splendid,. Thanksgiving sermon. The choir rendered special .music and Miss Jayne Mary Snell con- tributed three solos which were much enjoyed by all. Mr. and Mrs. Mae Hodgert and family, of near Exeter, spent Sun- day with Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Howatt. Mrs. Viva McGregor was a visit- or with her cousin, Mrs. Lily Web- ster, on Sunday. Rev. and Mrs. J. T. White visit- ed over the weekend with their son in Sarnia, and their daughter in Springfield. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Lobb, Holmes- ville, were Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Durnin, Mrs. Robert Beattie, Winthrop, is visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Small this week. Mr. and Mrs. Alva McDowell at- tended Anniversary service Sunday morning and visited with Mr. and Mrs. Ted Fothergill during the af- ternoon. Visitors with Albert Weymouth 'during the week were his son, Wil- liam, Windsor, and, his sister, Mrs. Mary Peters,'Clio, Mich., who also called on Mrs. Margaret Manning and Charles Weymouth, Sr. Miss Helen Dewar, London and the Duff's, of Goderich, were Sun- day visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Bert Hunking and William Hunk- ings and family. Mrs. Lowe, who has been a vis- itor with Mrs. Jennie Lyon for a few weeks had the misfortune of getting- her thumb crushed in a car 'door which necessitated hav- ing the nail removed... Dr. Robert Lyon and family, Edmonton, called on his two grand- mothers, Mrs. Lyon and 1Virs. Lowe oh Sunday, Whiner Howatt has returned from a two week's trip to the West where he purchased several_ carloads of cattle. Miss Goodhue, Port Stanley, was also a visitor with Mrs. Lyon dur- ing the week. a Summerhill Group October Meeting The October meeting of the Sumrnerbill Ladies' Club' was held at the home of Mrs. Wesley Hog- gart. Mrs. Percy Gibbings, the president, opened the meeting. Mrs. Fred Vodden gave the treas- urer's report which showed a sub- stantial sum on hand. Mrs. Russell Good reported on the adspital: Auxiliary meeting. Mrs. Clarke. Hall and Mrs. Don McLean are to attend the Novem- ber one, Mrs. Neville Forbes gave a talk on the convention she attended in Toronto on cancer. Mrs., Keith Tyndall and Mrs. Wesley Vodden each gave a reading and Mrs. Fred Vodden a contest which was won by Mrs. Neville Forbes. ' The November meeting is to be held at the home of Mrs. Ivan Hoggart. Those on the program are Mrs. P. Westerhout, Mrs. Geo- rge Wright, Mrs, Norman Wright, and Mrs. Norman Ball; and those on the lunch are Mrs, William Murch, Mrs. James' Snell, Mrs. Percy Gibbings and Mrs. Chester Farquhar.
