John Mennel
Funeral service was conducted
from the Ball and. Mutch funeral
home, High Street, Clinton, on
Tuesday afternoon, October 15, for
the late John Mennel, who passed
away in Victoria Hospital, London,
on Sunday, October 13. He was
in his 89th year.
Formerly a resident of Clinton
until recent years, Mr. Mennel had
been a resident of the Canadian
Institute for the Blind, in London.
In younger days, Mr. Mennel
was a printer, employed with the
Clinton Nerp,
Surviving are three nephews,
Frank Seruton, Ray, Bert and
Jack Mennel,, and one niece, Mrs.
Vera Parkinson, all of 'London.

Mrs, A. Colcinhoun
Mrs. M, T. Carless has received
word of the death of her sister-
in-law, Mrs, Albert Colquhotm,
Norwich, who passed- away last
Thursday, October 17, in Wood-
stock Hospital,
Albout 30 years ago, Mrs. CoI-
quhoun was injured in a motor
accident and has been a cripple
ever since. She will be greatly
missed by many, especially by the
members of Norwich Baptist Ch-
urch, where she was a faithful
and valued member. Funeral was
held from the Arn Funeral Home
on Saturday afternoon with burial
in the Quaker St. Cemetery,
Norwich. .

• David A. Reid died on Sunday,
October 13 in Lps. Angeles,
where he had, been connected with
Union Hardware and Metal Whole-
salers for the past 32 yeaks. His
intentions had been to leave for
Canada on October 2 but was, too
ill to make the journey.
He was a eon of the late Mr.
and Mrs, 'Hector Reid and was
born in Stanley Township,
He is survived by one brother,
John D. Reid and one sister, Miss
Minnie, bath of London; one nep-
hew, D, Ray Reid, Owen Sound,,
and one niece, Mrs, David Hall,
Toronto. Funeral service was from the
Bonthron funeral chapel, Hensall,
on October 17, by ibe Rev. Donald
MacDonald. Burial was in Baird's
Cemetery.. Bearers were Walter
and Alex McBeath, John 0. Coch-
rane, Stanley Love, Tom Baird and
Lloyd MCKenzie.

East Women's Institute at their
meeting for which Mrs. William
Kyle was •hostess at her home on
October 16, He addressed the group
on the subject of the "United Na-
tions". Members answered the roll call
with "Customs of a Foreign Coun-
try". Mrs. W. Broadfoot reviewed
current events. Mrs. John Sinclair
gave highlights of the Area Con-
vention held in London this week
of which she attended as a dele-
gate. $10 was voted to the °NIB.
Plans were outlined for a bus
trip to the Royal Winter Fair on
November 23. Tickets are being
sold on a Christmas cake made by
Mrs. Verne Alderdice, to he drawn
for at a later date. The Institute
rally will be held in Londesboro in
November.

The Women's Missionary Society
of Carmel Presbyterian Church ob-
served their thankoffering meet-
ing in the church schoolroom on
October 17, and entertained as
their guests the Home Helpers
and Arnold Circle of the church.
Mrs. Harold Bell welcomed the
members and 'guests. Scripture
passages were read by Mrs. Basil
Edwards. Mrs. Malcolm Dougall
favoured with a piano, solo.
The guest speaker Miss Sybil
Coertice, Clinton, a retired mis-
sionary, gave a very interesting
and' informative talk of her work
while in Japan. The speaker was
introduced by Mrs. R. Y. McLaren,
and thanked by Mrs. Ines Me-
Eevan. Rev. Donald MacDonald
closed with prayer. A social hour
was enjoyed. and lunch served.

schoolroom, while snapdragons in
a silver vase centred the tea table,
