side of the altar in St. Andrew's'
United Church, Bayfield, made a
lovely setting on Saturday after-
noon, October 12, for the marriage
of Beverley Elisabeth lVferner, RR
8; Clinton, to Gerald William
Clarke, Varna. The R,ev, C. E.
Peaeadk conducted the double -ring
ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs, Kenneth C. Mercer,
RR. 3, Clinton and her husband
is the son of Mr. and Mrs, William
G. Clarke, Varna.
Given in marriage by her fatly
er the bride was lovely in a floor, -
length gown of lace and nylon
net, with .fitted bodice of lace,.
fashioned with lily point sleeves
and .a V neckline was outlined
with pleated nylon net and sequ-
ins, Her full skirt .was of two
layers of nylon net over satin,
and was appliqued with lace mot-
ifs studded with sequins, Her
shoulder -length veil was held in
place by a crown of seed pearls
and sequins and she carried a
bouquet of white baby 'mums.
Maid of honour was Miss Mar-
jorie Dowson, Varna, dressed in
'beige 'taffeta trimmed with brown
velvet.` Bridesmaids Misses Jac-
queline Clu f, Bayfield and Nancy
Welbster, Varna, wore .olive green
tarffeta•' trimmed with dark green
velvet. The sleeveless dresses were
fashioned with fitted bodice and
full skirts. Each wore pearls, the
gift of the . bride and carried bro-
nze 'mums. Their hats, gloves and
shoes snatched their dresses,
Little Miss Linda Levis, cousin
of the bride, was flowergirl in
yellow taffeta trimmed with green
velvet bows and carried a nosegay
of white baby 'mums. Steven
Clare, brother of the groom was
ring bearer.

groom, who sang "0 Perfect Lave"
and "The Wedding` Prayer."

brother of the bride, was grooms -

ushered, the guests to pews trim-
med with white bows and white
'mums,
A :reception followed in the
church parlours, where the bride's
mother received in a dress of
brown with a silver thread, wear-
ing brown and white accessories
and a corsage of bronze 'iliums.
She was assisted by the groom's
mother in blue with black acces-
sories with corsage of pink car-
nations. Waitresses were Brenda.
Becker, Janet Morlock and Jean
Krueger, Dashwood. Guests at-
tended from Toronto, Kitchener,
Tillsonburg, Stratford and Dash-
wood. ,
Leavingfor" their wedding trip
to southern points, the bride wore
a blue : suit tritnined with black
velvet, blade and white acces-
sories and a corsage of white
baby 'mums. Upon their return
the young couple will 'live in
London. ,

the guest of honour at a surprise
party at her home last ,Tuesday
evening, when . albout 40 women

ensured a lively. and, interesting
evening.
aVtrs. Robert Stirling conducted
an alphabetical contest, which
kept . brain cells. ,'busy for some
time,
'Tihe Bothwell sisters favoured
with a museai trio with cornet
and clarinet.
• Mrs, Robert Tay10r gave a very
amassing and timely reading en-
titled "Thanksgiving at the Pur-
ple Bean."
A travelling package, unwrapped
many times only to reveal an-
other Wrapping, finally found its
way to the bride, The final un-
wrapping diselosed a bulb bowl
containing latent narcissus bulbs,
Miss i3otthie Stirling played an
accordian medley, which was much
enjoyed, after which Mrs'. Stirling
c'onducte'd a rhymed contest, deal-
ing with parts of ears, -which was
quite amusing.
'Me highlight of the, 'evening
was the presentation of a beaiit-
zftil tri -lite floor lamp in 'turquoise
and also a novelty h'ea'p contain,
ing a cigarette 'lighter. , The rhy-
med address to Miss Mercer was
read by Mrs. R. Stirling and the
presentation made by Mrs, Edgar
14.1athwell. Beverley thanked her
!friends and all sang "For She's
a Jolly Good Fellow",
Each lady present was asked
to write down her favorite recipe;
these were all presented to the
bride in a wooden recipe box.

Wesley -Willis United Church Wo-
men's Missionary Society was held
on October 10 in the lecture room
of the church . with visitors from
Varna, Goshen, and Ontario Street
Churches.. M. C. Nelson presid-
ed and she conducted the.d'evo-
tional., A ladies' . quartette from
Goshen was followedby a duet
from Varna ladies,
Mrs, 3. A. McKim gave the -•ad-
dress, telling "How God speaks in
different ways". She stressed sub-
mission sand surrender. "We ,may
do things our way, . but is it al-
ways • Gods way? When. we give
we must give cheerfully."
This was followed by a' duet
from Ontario Street ladies. Mrs.
N. Holland thanked those who had
taken part. Lunch was served and
a social time was enjoyed by all.

The October meeting of the
Good Will ;,Chub of Wesley -Willis
United Church was held in the
church parour on Tuesday evening,
October 10 with an attendance of
26. Owing to the absence of the
president, Miss W. O'Neil presided.
Miss M. Torrance was pianist.
Miss Diehl read the Scripture
lesson from Psalm 46 and offered
prayer, Mrs. Douglas Andrews,
accompanied by Mrs. N. Shepherd,
favoured with a beautiful solo,
Mrs. J. A. McKim gave a de-
lightful and informative . talk on
Newfoundland, telling of the cli-
mate, geography, industry . and
folklore of the islandand its pea-
ple. She showed some of their
handicraft. Mrs. Bond thanked the
guest speaker.

Night. School Classes
Night School Classes, under the direction of the
Clinton District Collegiate Institute Board, will be held
during the school ,term 1957-58. • Classes will begin
Wednesday, October 30, and continue for 16 weeks.
The fee 'set by the Board is $4 per student, to be
paid the first night, October 30, when they enrol. 'if
sufficient enrol, at least ten in each course, classes will
be held in SEWING, WOOD -WORKING, TYPING, OiL
PAINTING, METALCRAFT, LEATHERCRAFT and pos-
• sibly HOME NURSING and ELECTRIC WELDING. The
fee for welding will be $10, BASIC ENGLISH for New
Canadians will be taught on the same nights.
Registration bey mail' or telephone will not be ac-
cepted. Those interested, ,will be required to enrol on
the first night, or at the school anytime on or after
October 28. Numbers in each class will be limited.
