enrolled at St. Joseph's Academy,
London,
Mr, and Mrs, Hiles Carter and
family spent the weekend With
the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs,
Norman Carter, and while here
attended the silver wedding anni-
versary of Mr, and Mrs. Keith
Webster at Blyth.
Ore and Mrs, Frank EVens and
two dhildree, Mary Ellen and
Franide, have returned to their
home in Winnipeg, having spent
their holidays with the former's
parents and sister, Mr, and Mrs.
Frank Evans and. Florence, Rat-
tenbury Street.
Mr, and Mrs, Clifford Epps re-
turned Saturday frame Timmins,
where Mr. Epps judged the flower
show, While there they were con-
ducted through the Hollinger Gold
Mines, En route home, they spent
a few days at Beauty Lake Lodge,'
ti-out fishing with excellent luck.
Mr. and Mrs, George Boyer, Mr,
and Mrs. William Diamond; Mr.
and Mrs. Albert Pridham, Mrs.
(Dr.) Harry Garrett and daughter
Lillian, all of Toronto, visited in
Clinton on the weekend with Mr.
and Mrs, J. E. "Cap" Cook. The
ladies are the four sisters of Mrs.
Cook.
James W. Manning, assessor and
tax collector, was on va'c'ation
last week, and visited relatives in
Toronto. He also toured 'Eastern
Ontario, visiting the municipal of-
fices in Kingston, and travelling
the Thousand Islands aboard the
Miss Kingston' going as far as-, Beock,ville.

New Moderator Is
Appointed By
Presbyterian Men
The Rev. Wallace McClean,
Lucknow and' Dungannon pastora
charge, was elected moderator of
the Huron-Maitland Presbytery of
the Presbyterian Church in Can-
ada, in „Kincardine on Tuesday.
Among his first duties will be
to conduct the induction service in
Ashfield Church, of the Rev. Neil
McCornbie, B.A., coming from the
Presbytery off Newfoundland.
Seven students from the bounds
of Presbytery are being certified
for college courses leading towards
ordination into the ministry. In-
cluded is Lloyd McPhee, Seaforth.

Mission Planned
In United Church
This District .
Ontario Street United Church,
Clinton:, will be the site of one of
a series of meetings held by the
United Church of Canada this
This"Spiritual. Life Mission" is
planned to begin in First Presby-
terian Church, Sector:tie on Sept--
ember 28 with the Rev. J. Semple,
chairman of Huron Presbytery,
taking a big part in the planning.
Other meetings will be held in
Gorrie, and in James Street
Church, Exeter.
The meetings in the Clinton
church will be from October 29
to November 1, with missioner, Dr.
Ernest Thomas, Nashville, Tenn.,
of the Department of Spiritual
Life of the, Methodist Church of
the U. S, A.

Bazaar and Tea '
The Ca.tholle Women's League
of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic
Church was opened with the Lea-
gue prayer on Tuesday evening,
by the president, Mrs. F. van-
Altena. The secretary, Mee •Theo
Flynn read the minutes and Mrs.
Mac LeBeau gave the treasurer's
report,
Florence Evans reported for the
visiting committee. Mrs, JosePh
Flynn, Mrs. John Flynn and Mrs.
A. Goldsworthy will be on the
visiting comanfttee for September.
Plans were completed for the
annual fall bazaar to be held in
November. Committees were form-
ed for the various booths the day
of the bazaar. Prizes to be drawn
for the day of the bazaar will be
displayed in a window uptown.
Rev. J. W. P. Graham gave a
short instruction on church music.
Following the meeting he led a
singsong, with Florence Evans at
the piano, and a delicious lunch
brought the evening to a close..

The Auburn Public Library's
diamond jubilee was celebrated at
a banquet in the school room of
Knox United Church last week,
when 'over 100 persons sat down
at tables decorated with bows of
autumn flowers and candlee. Seat-
ed at the head were the guest
speaker, Maitland Edgar, Clinton,
teacher at A/V/M Hugh Campbell

The Auburn Public Library was
incorporated In September 1897.
The committee responsible includ-

McDonald; Samuel Caldwell, C.
Wettleutfer, John Nicholson, A, E.
Wetheral (school teacher), R., M,
Cummings. and Ce E. Erratt, The
only survivor is Mr. Wetheral now
living in Excel, Alta., who is. 82,
He sent greetings to the Library.
The first librarian was Miss Su
sic Blair, who held this office for
41 years, Miss Laura Phillips was
librarian from 1929 to 1939; Mrs,
Wesley Bradnook 1940-1941; Mrs,
Cal Straughan 1942-1943; the late
Miss Margaret King 1944-1955.•
Miss M. R. Jackson took over in
1956.
The 1957 Library Board includes;
hon, president, Dr, B, C. Weir;
president, Mrs. W. T. Robinson;
vice-presidents; Mrs. Alfred Nes-
bit and Mrs. D. A. McKay.

evening in the Legion Memorial

siding.
It was voted to send .$10 to the

Plans were diseusSed concerning
the catering of the Legion's turkey
banquet to be held at the October
general meeting.

ers will take place at the next
regular meeting. A good turnout
of members is requested.
A contest was run by Mrs. D.
Thorndike. Mrs. F. 'Truell• was the
lucky winner. Mrs. L. Butler won
the mystery prize.
The evening closed with a de-
licious lunch, served by Mrs. V.
Habgood's group.

place in Hamilton on Saturday,
September 7, at three o'clock by
the Rev. W. 3, Preston,- when.
Mary Isabel 'Whitmore, daughter
of Mr. :and Mrs. Harold Whitmore
became the bride of Alan Carl
Hamilton, son of Mrs. Hamilton
and the late Hector Hamilton.
Given in marriage by her father
the bride was lovely in a :gown
of white nylon chiffon and Chant-,
illy lace. The full bouffant skirt
was gathered to a yoke at the
hip line, She wore an elbow-
length veil held to a cap head-
dregs and her bouquet was of pale
pink carnations and stephanotis,
She was attended by Miss' Irene
Hulls. costumed in romance blue
nylon chiffon draped at the neck-
line to full length streamers at
the back with matching headdress.
She carried pink carnations and
stephanotis.

James Carruthers ushered, Thhe
wedding music was played by

After the reception which was
held at the Emerald, main dining
room the young couple left on a
Wedding trip, to New York and
Atlantic City, On their return
they will reside at 150 London St.
Hamilton. The bride is the grand-
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Whitmore, Holmesville.
