Spring. Show on Mair. Street .50 Years Ago
• . Spring Show in Clinton was held on Main
Street in the early days. This, picture taken
from a postcard, was made about 50 years ago.
The horses are lined up on King Street next to
the main intersection. The large building in .the
background is the old Normandy Hotel, razed '
to the groued, when it was considered too old
for further use. In that building Clinton' once
had a theatre, and the Department of Agri-'
cultural office once • was located there, Now it
is a vacant lot owned by an oil compeny who
have given up intentions to erect a service.

agricultural fairs behind her, Clinton and the
farm folk in the area wino support, take pant in,

damage in either case

OBITUARY
J. S, Castle
Final tribute was paid James
Sydney ' Castle, Simcoe, who died
Thursday in Clinton Pitbi a Hos-
pital, when funeral service was
held at the 'Castle home, Hayfield,
on Saturday afternoon. Rev, C.
S. Inder, rector of St, Paul's An,
glican Church, officiated and .in-
terment was in Hayfield .Ceme-
tery.
Pallbearers were Tommy Castle,
Walter Spurgeon, Emerson, Nel-
son, Russell and W. Heard, Flow-
er bearers were Lloyd Winhold,.
Murray Brown, Bili Craig, Jackie,
Ken and Wilfred Castle.
There were a large number of
floral tributes, including those
from the Kitchener., Guelph, and
Simcoe branches of Budd's De-
partment Stares, Who -Did -It -Club
of Simcoe, Allied Agencies of Mon-
treal,, Croziei s Store of Stratford
and, friends an neighbours.
The deceased has been employed
with tud'd's Stare hr Simcoe sin-
ce it was opened in 1937, attain-
ing the position of assistant man-
ager.
Mr. Castle got his start in re-
tailing, in Bayfield, with F. A. Ed-
wards and. Miss M, C. Reid, where
he worked 'after attaining what
was known es Senior High School
Leaving in th,e Hayfield School.
Thi' corresponds- to today's. Grade
10. He went on to.. Stratford,
where he became buyer for sever-
al drygoods -firms, including the
old Duncan Ferguson; store which
later became. the Stratford branch
of Canadian Department Stores,
and now is called .the-. T. Eaton
Co. Ltd. For several years he
was associated with the J. 3,
Crosier e:nd„ Company in Strat-
ford. se,
Surviving are his, wife, the for-
mer Marguerite Brom; t w o
brothers, "Vona and Gorge, both of
Bayfield. He was predeceased by
one brother Jack and one sister

sessions of the Annual Diocesan
meeting held recently in London.

The next meeting will be helot'::
in the parish hall on June 20. All
the women- of the three churches
of this parish are invited to attend
to hear repors of the Annual Dio-
cesan meeting and join in prayer
and fellowship.
'The renter closed the meeting
with prayers, after which the hos-
tess, Mrs. Gairdner served tea.
