Miss 0. Tyndall
About 25 guests gathered, Tues-
day evening fee a surprise kitch-
en shower at the home of Mrs.
Cecil Elliott with Mrs, Ross Mer-
rill and Mrs. Milton Wiltee assis-
ting, for Miss Doris Tyndall,
bride -elect of the month. The
bride-to-be was seated beneath
tiers of pastel coloured balloons.
The evening was spent singing,
playing games and autographing
an organdy apron. The bride op-
ened the many gaily wrapped
gifts, which were hidden through-
out the. house. The evening con-
cluded with lunch served by the
hostesses.

Native Sons Are
Honoured By
Tree Planting
It is not often that one parish
can claire two bishops among its
native sons, but that honour be-
longs to St. Paul's Anglican
Church, Clinton.
'The Right Rev, A. a O'Neil,
recently consecrated Bishop. of
Fredericton, N,E,, was a former
rector here, aed the Right Rev.
W. A. Townshend, first Suffragan.
Bishop of Huron 'Diocese, is a for-
mer member of the parish.
To -.commemorate these two
leishope, a pair of beautiful red
Maple trees- have recently been
planted in the groueds: of the An-
glican Church Camp on Lake Hur-
on, south of Bayfield. The camp
mother, Mrs. H. Thompson, Sr.,
feels that members of St. Paul's
and other friends will be pleased
to know that these trees will be
fitted with plaques.
They are "well and truly plan-
ted," and letters of appreciation
and thanks have been received
from bothleishop O'Neil and BM -
op Townshend,
Happy Workers
Meet At Home Of
Mrs. W. Gibbings
Mrs. Warren Gibbings was hes-
tess or the May meeting of the
Happy Workers Club. Elaine
Ball and Betty Ann Gibbing&
opened the meeting by playing
two accordion selections.
A letter from Mrs. Sloman was
read. Roll call was answered by
gifts for the layette by 13 mem-
bers and two visitors.
It was moved by Mrs. Ken Will-
iams seconded by Mrs. McBride
that the autograph quilt not be
made for this fall bazaar..
A penny sale will be held at
the annual bazaar with the articles
bought out of the Club's funds.
IVIrs. Cliff Glazier won the my-
stery prize. A humorous contest
was won •by Mrs. Elmer Dale. A
lovely lunch was served by the
hostess assisted by Mrs. George
Glazier and Mrs. Joe Gibson,
The next meeting will be held at
Mrs Joe Gibson's in the evening,
Roll call will be an exchange of
plants and slips. -

Regular Meeting
The regular meeting of the
Presbyterian 'Church Girls' Club
was held in the Sunday School
room of the church on Tuesday
evening, May 14. Mrs. J. M
"Dick" Jacob, president opened
the meeting.
Mrs. Alton Graham read the
Scripture lesson and Mrs. Frank
1VIutch offered prayer. The roll
call was answered by the exchan-
ge ea bulbs 'and plants.. It was
decided to hold a picnic pot luck
supper at' the church in junee
,A, social half hour followed with
hostesses Mrs. Royce Macaulay
and Miss Bea Gibson serving •a
lovely lunch.

Service For
Baird Infant

A special baptismal service was
held at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
T. B. Baird, Brucefield, on Sunday
afternoon, when Agnes Dianne,
infant daughter or Mr. and Mrs.
Stewart Baird, RR 1, Brucefield,
received the rite of infant bap-
tism. The Rev. Sidney Davison
officiated.
The baby's great 'great grand-
mother, Mrs. Agnes Baird, who
was 97 in January, was present,
and the immediate family.

in town last week, the guest of
her niece, Mrs, K. lk/falkiason. Miss
Seat, who served as religious ed -

years and now has regular vol-
umns in the Toronto Telegram
and the Windsor Star was on a
speaking engagement in Listowel.
She spoke in Clinton some five
years ago, anti reports that at
present she is booked up until
1959 for all the speaking she ean
do.

nated by Clinton merchants for
first, second and third place in
each of the doubles and singles.
Three of'Clinton's men's wear
merchants, Pickett and Campbell
T4mited, Herman's Men's Wear
and Aiken Bros., are giving the
prizes for the first place compet-
itors.
As this is the first such tour-
nament in the Ontario Command,
the Clinton, branch is most anxious
to put it over, An attempt Was
made last year to hold a table
tennis tourney, but Only two ent-
ries were received.
Canadian Table Tennis rules
will govern throughout the tour-
nament,

The Woman's Missionary Sore
iety of Knox United Church met
May 7, with the president Mrs. E.
Wightman in charge. Minutes
were read by the secretary, Mrs.
R. Easom and the treasurer's re-
port by Mrs. H. Webster.
An urgent appeal was made for
used clothing, yarn, sewing acces-
sories, such as thread, nehdles
materials, suitable for a bale to'
be left 'with Mrs. William Straug-
han before the end of May.
The WMS was invited by Mrs.
Tell to meet at her home for the
usual birthday party June 4.
Mrs. E. Durnin was in charge of
the program, using "The Whole
Armor ef God," as her thee.
Mrs. John Durnin read the Scrip -
tare chosen from the eth chapter
of Ephesians, followed with a lev-
ely prayer by. Mrs. C. Straughan,
Mrs. W. T. Robison and Mrs. C.
Straughan read papers. A solo by
Mrs, E. Lapp was accompanied by
Mrs. James Jackson.
Part of the study book was pre-
sented by Mrs. F. Piaetzer and
Mrs. Roy Easom, in the form of a
short skit, followed with a solo
by Mrs. W. J. Craig. •
Two splendid reports were giv-
en of the Huron Presbyterial,
Mrs. Toll read the morning high. -
lights prepared by Mrs. Hiltz,
while Mrs. Wightman reported for
the afternoon session.
• Horticultural Meeting
Mrs. G. R. Taylor presided for
the monthly meeting of the Horti-
cultural Society held in the For-
esters Hall. The 'secretary's re-
port was given by Miss Elmo.
Mute's and the treasurer's report
by Mrs. Ed. Davies. •
A piano instrumental was given
by Miss Margo Grange.
The president read pamphlets
on competitions or essays, conser-
vation of wild flowers, poster eom-
petition, bird houses, photographic
competition and Ontario scenery.
These were all tabled tin a later
date.
aVIrs. Taylor presented a diploma
to Mrs. C. M. Straughan for mer-
itorious service to horticulture.
MTS. Straughan had been secre-
tary -treasurer of the Society from
when it was formed until this
year and has given valued service.
Colored pictures were shown of
roses, gladioli and dahlias in Win-
nipeg. Mrs. Ed. Davies was nar-
rator and Gordon Taylor ran the
projector.
A duet was sung by Miss Sadie
Carter and Mrs. D. A. MacKay.
