turned home on Saturday after

Mrs. J. B. Higgins who accom-
panied Jim on his return to Tor-
onte, after Easter, returned• home
on Monday evening after a most
enjoyable visit in that city.
Mrs. I3, J. Toevs arrived on
Monday to spend the summer at
Mrs. William, J. Hall's cottage on
tChiniquy Street, Mrs. Toevs spent
the winter with her aunt in Flori-
da.
Mrs. J. E. Howard and Miss
Margaret Howard, who visited
the Rev, and Mrs. H. G. E. Cros-
by, 'Scotia, N.Y., from Good Fri-
day, returned home .on Saturday

Rev. and Mrs. H. B., Squdamore
arrived from Camp Borden, on
Wednesday en route to their cot-
tage at Hay's Beach, to spend a
few days with Mrs: R. H. F.

Master Dale Montieth, St. Marys,
visited Mr. and Mrs. E. IL West-
on from Wednesday until Friday,
spending Thursday night with
Mrs. Malcolm Toms.
Misses Alice and Anne Drouin,
Adele Fernette and Grace. Wool-
feeden, Detroit, were in the vil-
lage from Wednesday to Friday
opening their cottages. They
stayed at Miss Woolfenden's cot-
tage on Howard Street,

children, Clare and Nicky, Goder-
ich, were with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. F. P. Arkeil, from Tues-
day until Friday. Tom Arkell,
Burlington, was also with his par-
ents, over the weekend.

The annual meeting of the Por-
ter'e Hi Coeterainitee Club was
held on Wednesday last at the
home of Mrs. Alvin Betties, The
meeting was in charge of Mrs,
William. Cox. Secretary and trees-
urer'e reports were given and roll
call U was 'answered with "what
you would like most, in your gar-
den."
It was decided .to hold the, meet-
ings every three months and in the
evening instead of the afternoon.
Membership fees were raised to
50•cents,

Mrs. Emerson Heard was with
her daughter in London, ,from
Tuesday until Thursday while at-
tending the 70th annual board
meeting of the Women's Auxiliary
of the,Diocese of Huron:' Mrs. R.
J. Larson also attended as a dele-
gate from Trinity Church branch.
Altar Guild • The , Altar Guild of Trinity
Church met at the home of Mrs.
J. Cluff on Thursday night with
seven members present. Mrs. Cluff
was elected president to fill the
vacancy caused by Mrs. Outer-
bridge's resignation.
'Mrs, J. Stewart, secretary-
treasurer, reported that fair linen,
and a green 'burse' and veil had
been purchased. A motion was
passed to ipay all outstanding bills,
and other work discussed,

Mr. and'Mrs. J. Cree Cook were
at their cottage "Wee Loch
Haan" from Wednesday until
Sunday.
Mrs. L. A. Stephens, Janie,
Mark and Nora, returned ,to Tor-
onto on Sunday with Mr. Step-
hens, 'after having spent• the Eas-
ter week at "Loch Dame" cot-
tage, opening it fee the season.
Mrs. William Bell, Dearborne
and daughter Mrs. Chester Velett
and two children Greg and Kirk,
Grand Blanc, were also at their
cottage from Wednesday until
Friday.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank peters,
Doug and Mary, Stratford, weep-
led their cottage over the Easter
weekend.
From Florida
Mr. and Mrs.° J.. E, Hovey ar-
rived home on Wednesday even-
ing of last week, after a delight-
ful vacation In Florida, where
they were the guests of Mr. and
Mrs. Ted Mack, Tampa, for two
weeks,
On the journey down they ran
into rain and fog and were forced
to stay overnight in a motel near
Fort Wayne, Indiana, by a road
block of hydro poles and that util-
ity was cut off. However, they
were not delayed in thetrip as the
fury of the storm had passed'.
In Tampa., they had the pleas-
ure of being shown over the Des-
troyers Algonquin and Micmac.
They were in harbour at Tampa
and held "epee 'house." So Mr,
and Mrs, Hovey accompanied by
Miss Merry Mock, availed them-
selves of the opportunity of
viewing two vessels of the Can-
adian Navy, which they found
Most interesting.

ed home after visiting friends in
Toronto,
Donald H. Ross, Oakville, visit-
ed his mother Mrs, Fred Ross at
the weekend,
Mrs. Donald Oidrieve and two
Children, Toronto, visited her par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs, C. E. Asquith.
Miss Patricia Yungbitit, Wing-
ham, spent the weekend with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Major

Mrs. Marguerite Chopin and
Miss Mary Houston have returned
to their schools- after holidaying
at their respective homes.

City, where he will spend the
summer months working in the
mines there,
Mr. and Mrs. J, R. Weir, Lon-
don, spent the weekend with Mr.
and Mrs.- D. A, MacKay. Dr.
Weir who spent the week in Lon-
don, returned home with them,
Joan Weir who spent the holidays
with her cousin Barbara MacKay,
returned home with her parents.

A miscellaneous shower was
held in the Orange Hall in hopour
of Miss Edna Deer bride-elect of
this month. Miss Elva, Gross was
master of ceremonies. A. sing
song was enjoyed' with- Mrs. R. J.
Phillips at the piano.

'by Mrs. Gordon R. Taylor. Mrs.
Thomas Haggitt contributed a
reeding. Mrs.. Gordon Chamney
and Miss Donna Haggitt sang

Paul Betties returned home on
Sunday, after spending the holi-
days with his grandparents, Mr.
and Mrs. Robert Gritnoldby,
Ivan Lee and family have mov-
ed to the Elgin Nott home on
Highway 8. Mr. and Mrs. Hor-
nich are moving to the Lee farm,
formerly William. Carnochan's.
Mrs. Stella Jewitt, Forest, vis-
ited her sons William and Wilbur
Jewitt on. Sunday. Other visitors
at the Jewitt hom'e were Mr. and
Mrs. Winston Wilkinson, Forest,
Mrs. ,Jewitt intends to stay with
her sons the month of May.
The Constance Woman's Assoc-
iation and Woman's Missionary
Society will meet Wednesday,
May 8, in the school room of the
church, at the usual time. The
societies have accepted an invita-
tion from Turner's to be their
guests on May 15.

AUBURN ANNETTES

Mrs. Davies, leader of the Au-
burn 4-H Garden Club held the
first meeting at her home with
nine members present. Roll call
was answered by naming a fav-
ourite, flower, and giving reason
for the choice.
Mrs. Davies is 'assisted by Mrs.
Haines. Lorraine Hensch is presi-
dent of the club. Secretary is
Shirley Daer and press reporter,
Helen Youngblut.
The Club record books will have
covers of plywood this year. Seeds
were distributed and Mrs. Haines
described the use of vegetables,
Mrs. Davies told of methods of
planting both vegetables and flow-
ers. Pamphlets were distributed,
and home assignments given.

The guest of honour was called
to the front and seated in a dec-
orated chair. Addresses were
read by Margaret Clark from St.
Mark's Church and Elva. Gross
from the community. Gifts were,
presented Edna by Phyllis Deer
and Helen Yunghint.. .
WA Meeting,
The Woman's Association, met
Tuesday evening, April 23 with 25
ladies present.
The "Happy Hustlers" were in
charge of the prggrain with Mrs.
Ernie Durnin presiding for the
devotional period and Mrs. Nor-
man Wig-I-Atm-are at the piano,
The Scripture reading was tak-
en by Mrs, Laurence .Plaetzer and
Mr-s. Harold Webster led in pray-
er. . .
Mrs. Charlei East gave a read-
ing entitled "Housecleaning". A
reading was given by Mrs. Web-
ster: A piano instrumental was
given by June Mills,
Mrse Ernie Durnin introduced
the guests, Mrs. C. Powell and
Mrs, F, Fingland, both of Clinton,
who showed interesting, and edu-
cational slides on cancer' Resear-
ch. Mrs. Jack Armstrong thank-
ed them.
