Newlyweds Feted
An enjoyable evening was spent
in Porter's Hill school last Fr/dee,
in honor of newlyweds, Mr. and
Mrs. John Watson (nee Eleanor
Cox). The evening was spent
playing progressive euchre. Prizes
were as follows, high lady, Mrs. William McIlwain; low lady, Dian-
ne Harris; high man, Jahn Wat-
son; low map, John Harris.
John •and Eleanor were then ask-
ed to come forward and an address
was read by Mrs. Donald Harris
and the presentation of a hostess
chair was made by Wilmer Harris-
on, John thanked all and exten-
ded an invitation to everyone to
visit them at their home, Lunch
was served by the ladies.
The Woman's Association of.
Grace Church met on Thursday,
at the herne of Mrs. Ray cox. The
meeting was in charge of the vice-
president, Mrs, William MaIlwain.
Following,the opening hymn, Mrs'.
Renner lead in prayer and the
Scripture lesson was read, by. Mrs.
Donald Harris. Roll call was an-
swered with an Easter verse. It
was decided to purchase a• new
dust mop, dusters, etc., to be used
for church cleaning. Plans were
made for the spring cleaning of
the church to be done early in
May,
A quilt was quilted during the
afternoon. 'The meeting, eloeed
with the Mizpah benediction and
lunch was served by the hostess.
The May meeting will be held at
the home of Mrs. A. Lockhart.

Easter service will be: held next
Sunday morning-at 10.15 in the
United Church and the Sacrament
of the Lord's Supper will be ad-
ministered.
Special week night services are
being held this week on Triers-
day evening and in GoshenVnited
Chutch on Friday evening. Rev.
T. J. Pitt is in charge of both ser-
vices.
A large congregation filled the
United Church on Sunday last
when a reception service was held
for new members. Those uniting
with the church on Profession of
Faith were: Betty Postill, Joan
McClyinont, Eric Chuter, LeRoy
Workman and Douglas, McAsh.
Parr Line Man
Loses Finger
(By our Hensall 'Correspondent)
Andrew Hummel, Parr Line far-
mer, met with a painful accidents
on Monday. He lied trouble with a
new belt on an electric pump. Mr.
Hummel caught the belt and pulley
to give it a start and it is thought
his finger caught in a hole. The
finger was taken off as the pulley
went around. He was rushed to
the office of ,Dr. J. C. Goddard,
Hensall, where he was immediately
taken to Clinton Public Hospital
where he is now confined. Mr.
Hummel is an employee of Edison
Forrest.

the directors of the Bayfield Agri-
cultural Society held in the Town
Hall on Monday evening. Sixteen
directors and committee members
attended,
D. A, Finkbeiner, Exeter, was
present and addressed the meeting
regarding saddle classes in the .ex-
hibition of horses,' The meeting de-
cided to add two saddle classes to
the entry list, also two classes in
field crop competition: Garry oats
and Rodney oats.
The next meeting will be held on
May 13,

don, spent the weekend with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Middle-
ton.

Easter Dance
The annual Easter dance under
the auspices of the Bayfield Agri-
cultural Society will' be held in the
Town Hall on Wednesay, April 24.

The Women's Missionary Society
of Knox Presbyterian Church met
at the home of the president, Mre.
C. W. Brown on Wednesday of last
week. The minutes of the last
meeting were read by the secre-
tary Mrs, R. Heard and the finan-
cial statement by Mrs. Bruce
Menereye '
After the routine business a
Party was planned for the Sun-
day School in farewell to Mrs. Gil-
bert, a valued teacher, and her
three children who are moving to
the West.
Mrs. Brown led in the discussion
of the study book on Southeast
Asia and the hostess was assisted
by Mrs. A, A. Armstrong in sew-
ing refreshments.
Couple Honoured
John Watson and his bride, the
former Eleanor ,Cox, Goderich,
were honoured at a gathering in
the Town Hall, Bayfield, on Wed-
nesday evening of last week.
Shortly after the dancing com-
menced, it was interrupted for
John Campbell to read an address
and Kenneth Scotchmer to present
the newlyweds with an automatic
lazy-boy chair from friends in the
district.'
John expressed thanks and ap-
I preciation on behalf of himself and
his wife.
This enjoyable social evening
commenced with progressive euch-
re. Miss Clara Harrison, Goderich,
and Reg. Francis, held the high
scores and low were Mrs. Logan
Cleave and Mervin Falconer, Clin-
ton. Mrs. F. Boyce, William Hay
ter and John Armstrong played
for the dance. The ladies provided
lunch.
Willing Workers
The April meeting of the Will-
ing Watkers was held at the home
of Mrs, Arnold Makins and opened
with prayer. The president, Mrs,
Grant Stirling was in charge. She
chose the topic "Easter Eternal",
The Rev. P. Renner led in prayer.
Roll call was answered by 14 mem-
bers and one visitor. The treasur-
er, Mrs. Robert Blair read the
financial report. Three had birth--
days in April. The gift of the
month brought by Mrs. Grant
Stirling was taken home by Mrs,
Bert Greer. Mrs. Kenneth Brand-
on gave the card and flower re-
port. A lengthy business period
was conducted.. The meeting was
closed with the Mizpah benedic-
tion. Lunch was served by the
committee, assisted by the hostess.
The May meeting 'will be held at
the home of Mrs. Edgar Rathwell,
