The inaugural meeting of the
new Adastral Park Community
Council for 1957 was held Monday,
January 14, at RCAF Station
Clinton. The 1956 Mayor and
council attended the meeting and
formally transferred their duties
to the newly-elected council which
will hold office for a period' of one
year.

This 1957 council is the first
council which has, been elected by
popular vote of the residents of
this Permanent Married Quarters
area of RCAF Station Clinton. All
-RCAF personnel resident in PMQ
were eligible for nomination and
election and all RCAF personnel,
their wives and adult mentbers of
their families were eligible to nom-
inate candidates and vote in the
election on December t 20, 1956.
Each councillor was elected by
majority vote :of •the:electors of
the ward 'for Which he• was nom-
inated and th& Major :by majority
vote of the whole Community.
The Community Council provides
a channel of communication and
liaison between the residents of
the PMQ area and Station Clin-
ton, and advances, the general
well-lbeing of the cOmnunitY. •This
may be in the planning and con-
ducting of community activities
such a's social, sports, cultural and'
other similar activities; in organ-
izing and developing recreational
facilities and safety schemes for
the children of the area or in
developing plans for the beautifi-
ation of the' comkunity.
In, the past the'liC,Ouncils• have
been actively ftiriegoning organi-
zations• and an indiation of the
value which is placed on them by
the residents of the• RCAF com-
munity is the fact that over 65
percent of the eligible voters.voted
in the •election. ,

Jenkins, Clinton, spent the week-
end at the home of Mrs, J,
Mrs. Bruce Menerey spent a
couple of days this week with her
nieces, Misses• K. and M. Elliott,
Brucefield.
'Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Weston,
who have been in London since
Christmas, were with the latter's
sister, Mrs. M. Toms for the week-
end.
Mr, and Mrs. Ted Gill and two
children, Ingersoll, moved into
Mrs. Leonard Talbot's house the
second week in January. The
former is at RCAF Station Clin-
ton.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald_ Sager and
two children, Nicky and Clare,
Goderich, spent the weekend with
her aprents, Mr. and Mrs. F. P.
Arkell. Clare remained with his
grandparents until Tuesday.
'Corporal and Mrs. Lloyd West-
lake were also with her sparents
Saturday to Monday. pn their
return to Kitchener they were ac-
companied by Mr. and •Mrs. E, R.
Weston, who will spend a fort-
night with them.
