'hunderstorm in December?
What ,does it portend? The
writer asked Captain L. H. P.
MaeLeed of "Lake. Huron"
fame. "Louie" was cautious
in his reply. In his sailing days
it would have meant warmer
weather but about this storm
on Wednesday. he wouldn't like
to predict, for the weather is
all mixed up sometimes. Signs'
mean nothing at all now.

he saw nothing amiss at the time,
He had no Matches or inflammable

stones passing - through the mill
may --have •caused a spark from
friction which *moldered unoticed,
-At any rate the large T-shaped
barn 30' x 70' and 60' x 40' seem-

The only animals lost were two
pigs. Some implements. including
two tractors were. outside, buck

ary 400 bushels of wheat, 75 bush**
els of beans, 1,000 bushels of mix-
ed grain. •
That night' the Porters took
the cattle to the neighbouring
barn of Arthur Peck. On Wed-
riesday they were , occupied in
placing the beasts for the winter
They have had a number of offers
of shelter for varying numbers
from friends and neighbours,
They expect- to rebuild but at
present have no definite plans.

$15,000, partly covered 'by insur-
