Huron .aiHay .Film
Service for -'Programs
Organizations- in Huron County
MAY soon be able -to have a film
Senvica from various centres with-'
in the County. Films available
Will be of a type useful in planning
programs of, varied interests.
The National Film Board is 'of-
fering to assist in the establish-
ment of such a Service in Huron
County providing there• is suffic-
ient interest to support it, A.
meeting to consider the possibilit-
ies is to be held in the Board
Room of the Department of Ag-
rWulture in Clinton, at 8.00 on
Thursday, November 29. .Anyone
interested will be welcome,
An interested visitor to Clin-
ton recently in" this regard,
was R, E. Taylor, district rep-
- resentative for the National
Film Board. He noted the in-
terest taken by adults hi this
area in educational pursuits,
'such as the community night
school, and in the children',s
band and ballet, as well as• the
sports activities of the district.
The proposal is that a County
Film Council • will be organized
which will be made up of repres--
entatives of interested groups and
areas. This hotly would be respon-
sible for setting up rules and reg-
ulations, promoting interest in, the
films service, censuring films and
assisting in the organization of film'
outlets, , 'Rrdrnotion of effective,
film use through training in tech-
niques in introducing a film to a
group, as well as, in conducting
fihri, discusSion, would come within.
the area of interest, of this. body.
Outlets for the films may be
provided from vat-ions centres in
the -County, Serving the centre and
the ,surrounding area. To admin-
ister this service a local film coun-
sil or filinrcommittee may be or-
. ganized. Its duties would be to
provide a booking service fore the
'Ebbs, care ft?i- the filmi while
they are" in the areas train opera-
tors Of •projectors, and promote
the effective. us-e-of the films.
Thus, depending on the interest
shown, it may be possiblotoorgan-
ize a County Film Council with

anywhere from four to seven local
film councils under its jurisdiction.
The films woule.be placed in
blocks of around 12 films each and
would circulate periodically,Ipi t-
lay it Will be necessary far the
National Film Board to • supply
fihns on loan, These films will' be
informational in nature and will be ,
partieularly helpful as program
aids for Many organizations.
Film Councils of this nature
have been operating successfully. in
Grey and Bruce Counties for the
Past six years, At the present
time 267 organizations, including
churches and church groups, Wom-
en's Institutes; service clubs, Farm
Forums; Junior Farmers, LO.D.E.
groups; lodges artd •a large variety
of other organizations are mem-
bers. Films were used on 1,577
occasions last year,
To service these organization's
these Counties have 25 circsulating
blocks of films as well as, a cent-
ral film 'supply alailable to all
member organiz'ations, These lat-.
ter include 25 religious ,filmS 'to
meet the needs of churches and
church groups.
Such are the possibilities of a
film service in Huron County.
