Sees Variety
Good EXhibits was a very small attendance, Mrs,
Verne Dale presided for the WA
and asked the ladies to her home
on Wednesday afternoon, Septem-
ber 26 for a sale of miscellaneous
articles.
Alvin. Dodds and Wile Lawson
were appointed ushers for the ser-
vices on Sunday. A decorating
committee of Mrs. George Addison,
Mrs. Kenneth HulleY: Mrs. Frank
Riley and Mrs, W. Whyte to de-
corate the church. Anyone having
flowers could bring them to the
church on Saturday, Mrs, W. S.
Whyte, 'group leader presided for
the WMS. Mrs, Verne Dale gave
the Scripture lesson, followed by
prayer by Mrs. William Jewitt,
Mrs. Borden Brown gave the
Stewardship paper and Mrs, Whyte
the study book. Cards of thanks
were read from Mrs. Babcock and
Grace -and Bob Woods for gifts.

the sectional meeting in Brucefielcl
on October 4. An invitation from
Nortiiside WIMS, Seaforth, to be
their guests on Tuesday evening,

offering meeting. The meeting

prise, she said: "We don't want
her to do it, but she will. I Wouldn't
be surprised if she finishes: diggings
her potatoes while I'm doWn here."

.with the largest attendance in
years. Reeve N. Jones ,gave the
address of welcome; and C. W ,
Montgomery, agricultural repre-
sentative for Buren County, spoke.
There were more than 600 ent-
ries in the fair,, a substantial
crease .over last year. Exhibits
of ftuit, roots, vegetables, poultry,
eggs, grain and hogs, and other
livestock, crafts and 'arts were
described as excellent by fair of-
ficials, with a wonderful exhibit _
of flowers. •
A school, parade was headed by
the Bannockburn Pipe Band, of
Clinton and Varna, Taking part
were '.1.1ensall "Pnblic School and
school sections one, two 'and ten,
Tuckersmith; SS 7, Hibbert; and
SS 10, Hay. Judges were: grain,
H. H. G. Strang; roots, vegetables
and fruit, W. McKenzie; -poultry
and eggs, L. O'Brien; livestock and
pets, agricultural representative;
flowers, Mrs. C, H. Epps, Clinton;
crafts, G. Trott.
A contest in conjunction -with
the fair will be held in ,Hensall
town hall on October 8. Mr. H.
H. Sturgis, principal of South Hu-
ron DiStrict High School, Exeter,
will be judge ,-

stance Church anniversary. Ser-
vices will, be held at 11 a.m. and
7.30 p,na, Standard Time. A trio
from Grand Bend. will assist the
choir in the morning and in the
evening- a men's chorus from Zur-
ich will have special music.
A reception and dance was held

meeting was well attended, Mrs.
Clarence Reld's group was in
charge. Scriptural passages were
read by Mrs. Alex McGregor, The
devotional was - taken by Mrs.
Archie Hoggarth.
Mrs. Glenn Bell contributed
with a poem. Mrs. R. Y. lgeI.aren
read a humorous piece of prose on
"The Wedding"„ The business part
Was taken by Mrs. M. Dougall,
preslident, and minutes were read
by the secretary, Mrs. John Soldan.
' A beautiful quilt was presented
by Mrs. Northey, Cameron, Ont,
and has been Sold, the proceeds
going to the various organizations
of the church.
The next meeting will be on
Tuesday evening, October 9. Im-
mediately after the business' Rev,
Donald MacDonald Was called
upon to give a travelogue of his
trip to the British Isles.
Mr. and, Mrs. Davey, Auburn,
were recent visitors with Mrs., J.
Bonthron.

James Bonthroir on Friday last.
Mr. and Mrs. Murray MeCreery,

end in Sarnia, guests of Mr. and

patient in Clinton Public Hospital
since last March with a fractured
hip returned to her home on Mon-
day of this week.

Hospital, Exeter, on Sunday, in
Bonthro n's ambulance suffering
with a heart condition,

and her' ostband are here on their
honeymoon.

The •Reverend William Mitchell,
B.A., Kincardine, was named mod-
erator of the Presbytery of Huron-
Maitlami of the Presbyterian
Church in Canada. He.takes over
his 'duties from the Rev. J. R.
MacDonald, B.A., Ripley, who has
been moderator for the, past year
and a half. •
The Presbytery which met „,in
Ripley on September 11 approved
application of three young
men for the ministry. They are:
Cecil T. Thompson, Cranbrook;
James Perris, Brussels and John
Congram, Whigham.
' Arrangements were made to
license and ordain Angus MacKay,
a missionary teacher on the
Jhansi Field in Central India. The
service Will beheld in Whitechurch
on Tuesday, September 25.
Presbytery noted with approval
the increasing interest of Pres-
byterian congregations in the
stewardship sector project. The
first of four dinner meetings Was,
held in Goderich on September 10
to instruct leaders and canvassers.
Representative from the Anglican,
Baptist and United Churches were
also present. -
The Presbytery accepted its bud-
get, allocation of $37,122.07 for
