Bird Watching-
When talking of ,bird watching,
to James A. Cameron recently, he
told US' that he's had a time -of it,
discouraging starlings from build--
ing in his 'rural: mail box. Each
day he cleaned out the nest. Each
day the persistent starlings built
again. Finally after two weeks,
he made the box so difficult to
open that the birds were shut out.
The same thing wag reported some
years ago by a rural mail baX
holder when the Writer was work=
ing in the past office. But in that
instance •the starlings made off
with mail and one envelope con-
tained coins.

One day Mrs. Poth- saw a group
of -boys laughing over a book
which Gerry Wallis had brought to
school.. She enquired ond found
that it was a book ox "Ting's"
cartoons, So she wrote to him,
and asked if he ever addressed
groups. And so it was arranged
for him to come to Bayfield.
Merle Tingley is self-taught and
is now famous, having won many
prizes, An, outstanding award was
from the United States for a
safety cartoon.
He drew cartoons while a mem-
ber of the Armed Forces. After-
his discharge he was with a firm
of architects, drawing plans. One
very hot day as he drew some
plans, he put in all the grains of
cement, earth and •grass, and last
of_all drew a worm coming out of
the earth. In other words he was
"doodling", He put the work away,
expecting` to do it properly next
day. But when he came back it
had been sent off as finished work.
As a result he was given an ex
tended leave of absence. Ever
after that luke worm appeared it:
his cartoons.
"Ting". applied at the Landes
Free Press for a position as car-
toonist and was told that they
only employed one on a part-time
basis. Then he bought a car and
drove across Canada and back. He
returned to work in the litho•
graphing department of the Lon-
don Free Press and did part-time
cartoon work.
The luke worm which was the
means of losing him his position
with the architectural firm has
boosted him to fame.
that all got safely to their dest
ination and home again. Hot dog
and soft drinks were enjoyed. Mrs
William E. Parker took Grade
1-4 to the south beach. The child •
ren took their lunch and had a
glorious time playing games un

GROW Pullets BIG and STRONG
Many a flock off to an excellent start fails to hold that
advantage through the growing period. Sometimes
that's because the owner is so busy with other work
that he neglects his growing pullets; sometimes because,
with everything golfing out and nothing corning in, he
cheapens the quality of growing ration or cuts down
the quantity; sometimes because he is impressed by
the theory that they should be "held black".
Purina Research shows that birds must be fed ADE-
QUATELY to grow them to good body size, The real
egg money, nowadays, is made by hitting the top-price
top-Premium Summer and Fall markets with BIG eggs,
and plenty of them. And to get early, heavy, steady.;
long-continued production of big eggs you need big,
strong, solidly grown, fully developed birds.
You can economize on your growing costs by making.
full use of short 'tender green posture; but on the best
of range it still pays to feed a well-balanced growing
ration, In one Purina Research test, pullets grown the
Purina way averaged'
