Knox WMS Has
Birthday Party

The annual birthday party of
the Woman's Missionary Society
of Knox United Church, Auburn,
was enjoyed at the home of Mrs.
Fred Toll, on Tuesday afternoon,
June 5, when 49 ladies and several
children were present.
Mrs. John Durnin gave the call
to worship dedicated to "Shut-
Ins". Mrs. W. J. Craig was pian-
ist throughout the meeting' and
Psalm 61 was' read by Mrs. John
purnin, followed with prayer by
Mrs. C. C. Washington.
A piano instrumental "In the
Sweet Bye and Bye" by Mrs Nor-
man Wightman, was followed by
Mrs. George Millian who gave a
paper on Temperance.
Mrs, Ernest Durnin and Mrs.
Adams, Goderich, sang duets.
Mrs. Washington introduced the
guest speaker, Miss Sybil Cour-
tice, Clinton, a former missionary
from Japan. Her address was
very interesting as she' gave a
glimpse into the lives' of the .Sap-
anese women, their families and
their homes.
A skit was presented by Mrs.
Anderson, Mrs. Plunkett and Mrs.
McDougall. Mn. J. Durnin thank-
ed all who had helped with the
program.
Mrs. E. Wightman thanked Miss
Courtice for her address, Mrs.
Toll for the use • of her home and
Mrs. J. Durnin for the program.
Offering was received by Mrs.
Webster. The roll was called and
minutes' read' by the secretary,
Mrs. R. Easorn. Financial report
was given by Mrs. Webster. Mrs.
H. Mogridge reported they have
packed and sent a bale valued at
$480.
Mrs. Earl Wightman invited the
WMS to her home for the July
meeting with the Mission Band in
charge.
Bible School Has
"Jesus Christ"
Theme This Year
"Jesus Christ" is the theme for
the Ontario Street United Church
Bible Vacation School from Tues-
day, July 3 to Friday, July 13.
With the new Christian Educe-
tion Wing making better facilities,
the committee is planning a bigger
and, better school this year. The
baSernent of the main part of the
building has' been re-finished, also.
Rev. A. G. Eagle, B.A„ 13.D.,
will be principal of the school with
Miss Sybil Courtice, assistant.
All children of the community
from three tb four years of age
and up are invited to the Bible
Vacation School, where Bible
stories, handcrafts, games, sing-
ing will be led. Classes• are from
nine to 12 in the morning.
Mrs. Stewart Schoenhals will
head the Kindergarten department
with Mrs. ' Francis Powell the
Primary department, and Mrs.
George Potter the Junior and Jun-
ior High department,

Mrs. William Doice

Public funeral services for the
late Mrs. William e-Doig, Goderich
Township, formerly of Kippen and
Staffa, who passed away at the
Muir Nursing Home, Seaforth, on
Friday, June 22, were held from
the Bonthron Funeral Home on
June 25, by Rev. Samuel Kerr,
minister of Caven Presbyterian
Church, Exeter. Burial was in
Staffa cemetery,
Mrs. Doig, the• former Maria
Davis, was born in Hibbert Town-
ship, and was a member of Crom-
arty Presbyterian church. She
was in her 12nd year. Surviving

_Clinton Pair Golden Anniversary

Public funeral service for the
late John Riley, who died sudden-
ly at his home, Lot 4, Concession
10, Tuckersmith, on June 17, were
held from the Bonthron funeral
home, Hensall, on June 19, by Rev.
N. D. Knox, minister of Trivitt
Memorial and St. Paul's Anglican
Churches, Exeter and Hensall.
Burial was in Hensel). Union Cem-
etery,
Mr. Riley, who was in his 79th
year, was born in Tuckersmith
and lived there all his life. He
was a member of St. Paul's Angli-
can Church, and is survived by
his widow, the former Nancy
Riley, and one son, Nelson, Tuck-

The Woman's Association of
Turner's' United Church, held' a
mother and daughter banquet in
the church on Monday evening,
June 25. Fifty-two mothers and
daughters joined in a meal served
by the young men. During the
meal a sing-song was conducted
by Mrs. E. Townsend, Mrs. E.
Crick and Mrs. A. G. Eagle,
The toasts were given as fol-
lows: The Queen, Barbara Fal-
coner, God "'Save the Queen was
sung in unison; The Church, Mrs.
K. Rogerson, replied to by Mrs.
A. G, Eagle; The Mothers, Barb-
ara Layton, replied to by Mrs.
Fred McGregor; The Daughters,
Mrs, J. Turner, replied to by Miss
Helen Turner.
The program consisted of piano
solos by Joan Rogerson and Ruth
Crich; vocal solos by Eileen Gar-
rett and Mildred Crich; a recita-
tion by Joyce Falconer.
During the program, on the oc-
casion of her birthday, Mrs. Eagle
was presented with an electric
tea=pot by Janet Falconer, on be-
half of the WA. Mrs. E. Whit-
more was guest speaker.
Elizabeth Townsend thanked all
those who took part 'and Ruth
Brown thanked the young men
who served.
